[L3 Doddle]

Pentex 645Z w/300 F4 and #3 ext tube
After shooting flowers for many years with a 600 f4 and tubes this was my first opportunity to take the 645Z out. I shoot with both the 90 2.8 macro and the 300 with tubes and much preferred the 300 with tubes

A pano that I think was with the A 200. I wish I could enter the FL for old lenses.

I birded yesterday for a few minutes. I found what I think is a Bluejay pair that has 2 fledglings. I started with this one up in a tree and after a while it flew down to a better position.






Once again the transition from smugmug to PF looks terrible. These are sharp after I export them from lightroom, I don't know why smug mug degrades them so much?

I've been using this set-up for telephoto shooting for quite some time. Old Bogen aluminum legs(either of the 2 sets I have) a second hand(less expensive) Wimberly Gimbal head, long arca swiss plate to accommodate any forward or back movement on the clamp for balance, old film flash handle with arca-swiss clamp attached to accept the flash and cactus triggers.

They actually look pretty sharp to me, on my non-hdpi display. Do they appear degraded to you before you post them here? Default PF account settings are for viewing posted images at small -ish maximum size, which considerably degrades apparent sharpness of anything larger. If you set them to display at a larger size (I set mine mine to 1280w, 1024h) and make sure your images are smaller than that when you post them, then you will be able to view them them at their 'actual' size, with no degradation. This happens a lot here with folks who post image urls of hi-res pictures from Flickr. Anytime you leave image scaling to the browser, IQ is out the window.

Me, too. FWIW, I always down-size photos before posting them to smugmug--partly so I have more control of the process but mostly because my Verizon DSL connection is so slow.

BTW Those aren't Blue Jays--maybe Western Scrub Jays?

Thanks! You can actually drive up to the summit and then take short hikes to various vantage points including down into the crater and surrounding areas. The weather is unpredictable and can change quickly, elevation 10,000 ft. Clouds gave way at about 8,000 ft.

Thanks bobbotron, am looking to make a print of this plus many more from the trip. Almost looks like a drawing when zooming into the center part of the crater due to the high winds that sweep through there constantly.
