Thanks!
But I don't know about all that. I just look for something pretty and press the black button on the camera.
Seriously good composition!

Mike, Your description in Flickr says that you manually blended two shots. Was there no wind? How did you do that?
i didnt get into the rest on flickr, but this is also a focus stack of about 4 slices. It was very windy and i had to do some creative blending to combine them. up close, i can see the problem areas, but it's ok

LOL! (Insert obligatory "you must have a really nice camera" comment here.)

Many people have looked for something pretty and pressed the black button many a time. But very very few point the camera in just the right direction and at just the right time (and do so so consistently) compared to you.

I think that the biggest challenge in landscape photography is finding pretty arrangements of objects in the natural world. The vast majority of all possible landscape photos -- that imaginary set of pictures from all possible locations, angles, focal lengths, times, etc. -- totally suck! There's almost always something wrong with the relative size, lighting, view, etc. But not in yours!

What I've especially liked about your photos is that they've forced me to really think about what makes a great photograph (at least to my eye) in terms of the relative spacing and sizes of regions in the subject matter.
Translating those insights into seeing the right locations, camera angles, & times for my own photography is another matter. But at least you've given me a lot more insight into how to look for them.

that is really nice of you to say and I appreciate that you've taken the time to enjoy my work.
I hope my earlier reply was not taken as flippant, but I really have never approached composition in any methodical way. I really just walk all around my intended subject until i see what looks like the best possible balance of elements and until the composition feels right, but that is about it. Plenty of times, I never find the sweet spot and I don't often share the "duds", but I get a thrill when it falls together easily. That is what keeps me coming back.
thanks again!

Mike - I agree with all of the positive feedback on your shots - very well deserved.

Love both of the tree shots, but - for me - the second one is the winner!
