I would like to see more. Do you have some examples? In my experience, it's usually the other way around, an artist uses a photograph as the basis for a drawing and/or painting.

I started out as a painter so maybe I have it backwards. Was used to making lots of little sketches, working out compositions. When I'm planning a shoot, I will often do the same when I'm trying to figure out lighting. Pages of quick sketches that get tossed, just thinking on paper. I do the same thing with web layout. Having some kind of plan before hand is the only way I know how to do a portrait or commercial shoot. For me, it's just easier to make small drawings as a sort of blue print.

I am loaning tonight my 645 to a friend at our photo club, so I finished yesterday a roll which stagnated a bit ... the first image is at Poitiers and the rest at Montmorillon where I took Charlotte to a children's swim meet.

Pentax 645 + SMC Pentax-A 645 55/2.8 + Ilford Delta 100 home developed in Ilfotech and scanned @ 3200 dpi with Epson V600 ... minor PP in Lr4 for fun.

I like the colours, but you're using the shutter speed rather than flash duration to try to freeze the motion. Can you use X-sync speed and get the flash to fire for minimal duration (rather than be in hotsync mode) instead to better freeze the droplets?

Although one could use the flash in that way, sometimes shorter is not better.

One of the nice aspects of this image is that the length of the blurred micro-drops is similar to the width of the rim of the splash crater. It nicely conveys the motion of the spray without blurring the crater. By explicitly controlling exposure time with the shutter, the length of the spray blur is optimized.

The whole point was to try out fast shutter speeds on the camera. I could probably just use my AF540 flash for a quick duration with slow shutter. Where's the fun in that?

A still life translation from my sketchbook, with the aim of letting a necklace float in unusual light. It should not be an realistic take-up, e.g. To work out the materials.




For image composition:
The necklace hangs on a transparent thread on the brooch on the head. This is mandatory because otherwise the chain itself can not float without help in the bow. This means the picture is actually photographed on its head. The background brightness is generated by an optical narrow beam. Standing upside down - from the right a stripped stripelight and from the left a brightener with mirror foil which is glued to cardboard. The Flairs were created with a pot scratch, which I put into the lens, and brought to the side from below with a snoot to light up. The star arises from vaseline, on a glass disk in star shape, through which I photographed. I had to work on the EBV in the reflection, however, because I did not pass the vaseline precisely enough. Finally, the camera set to 3800 Kelvin to get the cool color mood.

So the picture has been really photographed.

Don't worry, winter ist NOT over. In some cases we have snow in the middlle of the year (mountains).
