Beautiful and very interesting!

I think the effect of the birds is wonderful and if I were you, I would go back to the lighthouse to try different treatments of it. In particular, I'd work on increasing the size and definition of the bird trail zone. One minor dissonance in this image is that the large, brightly-lit, strongly-structured building is "looking left" whilst the more subtle and intriguing bird-trail zone is obscured behind the lighthouse and facing right.

I'd try moving the camera toward the right and a bit closer to the building which might better balance the building facade vs. light-fan-with-birds. I'd also try a portrait-oriented shot maybe with the front facade in the lower-left of the frame, the light-fan-with-birds in the upper-right, and the lighthouse cylinder bisecting the frame in the center. Of course, I could be horribly wrong, so the grain-of-salt, two-cents rule applies!

I do like your use of wide-angle here because it brings in more stars, provides a nice curvature of their motion, and adds a bit of keystoning to the lighthouse which accentuates the sense of height and scale of the tower.

Excellent image and an intriguing effect overall!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply - very interesting and useful. Apologies for the slow reply...

Is that with or without the grid? I love the dramatic falloff it gives in these shots?

Mola Setti with white grid
I did have a light w/ grid to light the background & 2) side lights w/ barn doors for side high lights
Also the white shirt acts as a reflector (on purpose) as well as the piece of plexi on the floor
But the main effect is the Mola

Very nice to see what the D/35 kit can do, fabulous. Soon I can see for myself as I have the A/35 in transit to me to use on my D. I bought an ugly one from Keh, and the ad photos make it look like excellent. Keh calls stuff ugly that other sellers would call excellent or "minty." You just can't trust their ratings! :>) We are waiting for more safari photos.

It's a really great lens. I'm pretty much at a loss to find any fault with it for my uses. I'm sure I'd love the newer AF version too but so far I'm pretty content with the A model and money to spend on other things like travel!
Safari photos are in the works but I have another business trip coming in a few days so it might be a couple of weeks before many surface. I do have one on my Instagram if you want to get a preview.

Here's one more A 35 shot from last night.

I noticed that my digital Fuji X camera would want to fill in shadows for me. I like shadows,
they are our friend. It is so nice to have more control over these kinds of things with a film camera.

New lens Pentax-A 645 35mm f 3.5

My long wanted Pentax-A 645 35mm f 3.5 just arrived this morning from Keh at about half the usual price because it was marked "ugly." But the lens looks and works like it should be marked Excellent. You just can't trust those Keh lens ratings! :>)

Here are a couple of early test shots, on the K-1 this time. It goes on the 645 D this afternoon for further trials.

Congrats on the new lens!
Thanks. Now if you will let me follow you around for a few weeks and make some of the shots you are making, perhaps I can learn how to use the 645D with this lens!
