I agree.

The best image I’ve seen from the 55mm.

Milford Sound is on the South Island, about 90 minutes south of Queenstown. A beautiful place, but very crowded when we were there 18 years ago.

...

I do not see as expected from the description a rainbow reflection from the water, which is pretty rough for good reflections. I do see the less often recorded 51-degree secondary rainbow. (See Glenn Randall: The Art, Science, and Craft of Great Landscape Photography for a technical description.) Very nice shot.

2,

That rainbow shot is really fantastic, inspired. I have most of the 645 lenses, but not the 28-45 (or 25). Love your work--keep it up!

Thanks. Yes NZ. Enchanting place. The Milford Road is as photogenic as the peaks of the sound and the sound itself. I find myself swearing because it’s so beautiful.

90 minutes? Did you the tour by plane? it’s a good 4 hours from Queenstown. A bit more if you are in a Petrol Toyota campervan like me. Or are you meaning from the town that time forgot, Te Anau? You could do that to Milford at a pinch but never as a photographer. Aside from the obvious tourist spots like Mirror Lakes where Fiordland National Park have kindly put a sign with Mirror Lakes upside down to make the point unnecessarily obvious. Eglinton Valley is another popular coach stop but get there when it’s quiet and it’s stunning.

There were just 7 of us on the boat. Less crowded in Late April/May and all three times I have done it at this timeconditions have been good to stunning.

I’m likely to be in Australia on business again about this time next year. I’d like to see Doubtful Sound which accessible only by boat and trail.

The skipper of the boat called it a reflection probably because the colours are reversed in the secondary.

We did a one-day tour of Milford sound, by bus, from Queenstown. About four hours down, but with several leisurely stops on the way and lots of witty commentary. Then a couple hours on the boat. Then, I swear the bus driver got us back in an hour. Two wheels on the corners, foot flat on the floor, everyone with motion sickness. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

(I don’t actually remember how long the suffering lasted. But we got back the same day we left, in time for dinner I wasn’t ready to eat, so the return may have been 2-1/2 hours, but I don’t think longer than that).

90 minutes for me is more than an hour, less than a day.
