It's been quite a while since I posted anything of my own on here. These were taken last night with the Z and the Pentax 645 A 200. I really think the lens lineup could do with a modern design in and around 200mm, but this lens can produce acceptable results in post.

These two shots are of a estuary of the River Add flowing into Loch Crinan with the mountains of Mull in the distance.

Those are really nice!
I know the A 200 isn't one of the highest reviewed lenses but I always seem to get pretty good results when I use mine.

This camera has a fixed 45mm lens that gives about 28mm equivalent with 645. For me it is an ideal
travel camera for when you want to include big things from a relatively small camera.

(For those that have not been here, one cannot backup any from this point unless you shoot from a boat on
on the Detroit River.)

You also wouldn't want to back up too far and wind up in the wrong neighborhood!
I grew up about 45 Miles from there in Ann Arbor.

That's a great shot! I love the way you framed it.

It is not an bad lens as such, but I don't love the rendering much. A distinct lack of contrast. More due to the coatings than the glass I suspect. I can add it back in on post, but it is not as natural as getting it captured at the start of the process

The A-200 is an okay lens, but the FA-200 is a great lens. I greatly prefer the FA version even though I am not much of a fan of automatic focussing. The A and FA versions have completely different optics.

Having tried the 645A, the 645FA and the final version 6x7 200mm, I am of the opinion that this focal length is not superbly served on the system. Agree with ivanvernon's comment that, with the better lenses, the contrast can be 'fixed' in post, there just isn't a lens that seems quite able to keep pace with what the 645Z (and modern film emulsions) can offer. Not that it can't be compensated for so that the results are ok, but who buys a medium format camera because they are happy with 'ok'?

I just bought a 67 200 late version on eBay in the hope it will give me better results than the A 200. It won't get here for a while. How do you find yours in comparison to the other two?

I think it's the best of the bunch IMHO, but still not stellar

The picture I posted recently with the San Fran skyline above some wooden posts in the water was taken with that lens

These are spectacular! I especially could look at that first one all day long. Sweet well composed frame.

Never heard of that town, but holy crap did you shoot some gorgeous pics there!
Love em all and really like the details on the tight bridge angle as well as the fog about to lay down over VA Hospital.
Great stuff, Ed.

Thank you, it is a compositional gimme. It was unusually hard to take pics rather than just take the 2 hour sunset in old school.

Thanks for the feedback. To take this a little further, on PF the wooden post pic looks great. I know you need good or great to get that good at 1280px long edge here. But if you wanted to print very large could the 6x7 smc 200mm rise to the challenge?

Well, I wouldn't have got them without help from a certain chap you know quite well... Thanks, Mike!

I think it would be fine with the right processing... But it could be better!

Is anyone here in contact with Ricoh? I found out that the Pentax professional program was disbanded and I'm curious if there are any plans to implement or start anything new. Customer service at Ricoh has been clueless.

Indeed as are the others. Ed, how did you get the stork to stay still for so long?

Thanks, guys! Firstly (sorry to be pedantic), it's a pelican ;-) As for how, well, I didn't. It was still for a very long time, but not quite long enough. I ended up with a ghosted version of the bird. However, I had anticipated that might happen and took a shot of it still without the filters first. So was able to composite the static bird onto the ghosted version to tidy it up.
