I'm glad that some people can spend $10K on photographic gear just to "goof around" with it

Goofing around

I am glad some people can afford to tour around Spain to take photos.

I am also glad some people can afford to goof around with the DA 645 28-45.

What I cannot understand is why some people buy expensive photographic equipment just to goof around and take pictures of flowers!

I also cannot understand, with human ingenuity being sufficient to develop a camera as magnificent as the 645Z, why someone cannot invent a reasonable deterrent to deer eating my hostas (see first photo).

Stonehenge trails

Stonehenge exudes a powerful sense of mystery and timelessness - something the stars only add to

I noticed that; I thought he lived in a depopulated area.

When we were there, a landslip had blocked the main road, and the detour was Crown Ridge Road. We were driving a camper van, and my wife nearly had apoplexy looking down the cliff (on the part of the road that is higher than these switchbacks) from the outboard side of the car. That was an unforgettable experience, and an unforgettable place.

Thank you, my friend.

I'd love to say that the angle was the result of careful planning and artistic visualisation. But, in fact, it was the only angle that was a) relatively free of light pollution in the background and b) allowed me to get close(ish) to the subject at night... So a happy collision of circumstances!

Thanks guys - wish I could have been a little higher to get above the bushes. This was where I left a £550 tripod...wasn't there when I returned...

The road to Wanaka is a great drive. I have done it in a car and in a camper. I might be back next year...

Corfe Castle in Dorset dates back to the 11th century. Think how much human history has come and gone in that time... But the stars gazed down when it was built and they gaze down still.
