All last week we had thick fire smoke in the area. I'd see that orange ball of Sun both at sunrise/set. I kept thinking I should go out and look for a picture with it. But when I'm at home in this crowed city I don't hardly have any photo mojo. I'm glad to see you do.

A Gibraltar tripod, perhaps? Ref: https://www.moogs3.com/literature/MoogS3/Specsheets/SpS/Branch_of_Tripods_Sa...raltar_SpS.pdf

Thanks! Those look VERY capable, but not very portable for my needs. I'm afraid to guess how much they cost.

thanks, for FF equivalent, it's less if you use a .79 crop factor. But, I am happy with the quality of the Pentax 645 1.4X TC here.

...
As I very vaguely recall, in the ball park of $600. ca. 1970. I think I saw a used one on sale yesterday in a web link for $3k -- more than a used 600mm 645 lens costs, but significantly less technically complex. On the other hand, when industry needs a tripod that strong and there are few alternatives, they are a lot less expensive than having the corporate machine shop build a one-of version.

Two regular tripods supporting each end of the 600 will do the job for less money and weight. A bipod (if you can find one) under the front of the lens with the tripod mount on a regular tripod will do likewise.

But I’ve been able to lock down the 400+1.4x using a Gitzo and mirror pre-release.

That is a lovely shot. Really captures the haze from the fires, one of the few hazes worth capturing. One day I will try and get the 600, but maybe I will have to get the 1.4x TC first.

I have found that locking down the 90mm can be problematic in the wind, let alone a 600 with 1.4tc. Focusing through live view shows the image dancing a little. The tripod seems rock solid with a very heavy duty head, but still there is vibration from the wind.

That lens really does look good for garden photography. 'True' colour seems to be a feature with many 67 lenses.

Thank you Susan. It is an unusually photogenic location. There used to be horrible homogenous conifer plantation obscuring this view, but it has recently been cut down. I will be visiting quite regularly to try and get the scene captured in the nearly infinite weather and season moods that present themselves

Thank you. The 67-55mm does nice things for flower colors.

Yes, I agree that it captures colors nicely. To be honest, I had not actually "quantified" what it is about the 67/55mm that I like so much, but now that you mention it, I believe color fidelity, especially with reds, is one of its outstanding characteristics.

Yes somehow the reds are better through the one 67 I currently own. I also really like the way it renders greens. Pentax has generally done well with greens, but somehow in this horticultural context the slightly less saturated green helps with showcasing flowers.

Last month I got a bag of expired 120 film--38 rolls in all. Most of the rolls had expirations dates between 1986 and 2000. Though some had no expiration dates none were newer than 2000. As a test I pulled a roll of film I was familiar with--Kodak TMAX100 and shot it at the indicated speed of 100 and developed in in Xtol for 100. I'm guessing this was 20 year old film, and the internet says to add one stop for each decade, but not knowing how it was stored, I stuck with 100 before I tried over or under exposing it. It turns out, it came out perfectly, so I'm less worried about the other rolls. Both photos below were shot with a Pentax 67 and the SMC Takumar 105/2.4:
