I exposed with 0.7 stops negative compensation as I knew the lights could easily throw things out. One of the joys of the Pentax is that you can draw detail from the shadows with no pain. There is no real noise either even though handheld at 800 ISO. I usually start by pressing the auto exposure in lightroom and then move the dials until I like the results. Lightroom wanted to make this darker but also with less contrast. I added back more contrast within PS using Viveza.

The LR develop panel is below and the histogram on the left is post PS processing...
Interesting. So, really nothing that unusual...except for going into PS with Viveza. I use LR now pretty much exclusively, when I don't have a reason to use LightZone. But I hardly ever use the Auto anything in LR. Seems like you could have added back contrast right in LR?

I have negative EC dialed into my Z as a matter of course, and on my K1U2 as well. I've certainly done a lot more exposure lifting in my shots!

That Dehaze setting is interesting, and the Vibrance is higher than I ever use....so I'll have to try those.

The 2 histograms are interesting...

So, I'll be thinking about all this. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to answer in such detail!

Once again, brilliant visual rhyming.

.
My Z is on -1 by default. I read what many say about exposing to the right so the histogram leans to the right, but I know how my Pentax performs best. I know i can get away with quite a bit of -tive compensation and recover detail with little or no cost.

I tend to use vibrance more than saturation, I find it a less blunt tool. I don't really have a formula. I just click auto and then play around with the dials until I get something I think is the basis of what I would like the final image to be.

Your pictures are always a treat see. You go to so many cool places. But my 2-cents, for what it's worth, on my monitor, I can sometimes see color shift from shadows being pulled too much relative to the tone of the scene.

Your two cents are worth plenty Tuco. Thanks for the compliment and the advice. Will keep an eye on the shadows.

I said above (but my user settings had my posts automatically coupling, which I have now disabled...so it got a little lost under my reply to itshimitis) that this image had brilliant visual rhyming. Looking at it further, it is actually even more sophisticated than I thought at first, and includes subtle yet astonishing spatial elements within its amazing composition. All the more so for appearing off-handed as a street grab. Truly a museum worthy image. I am very, very impressed.

Early morning snow and sunshine . . .

Sometimes when I use the D early in the morning, I do not pick up the Z for the rest of the day, just those natural CCD colors I think.

My First Roll of Ilford Pan F 120

For this particular shot I rated it at ISO 25 since everyone seems to say the film needs lots of light.
I like the grain structure since it is tight and so unlike the T-Max I normally use.

It looks good. I shoot PanF at box speed using Rodinal.
