I only have problems if the film is really curly. I think Fompan is the worst, if I remember correctly, and I've already decided not to buy any more Fompan in any format. The most helpful thing to do is cut off a tiny snip at 45º at the leading corners, so that those corners don't snag. Works very well with 35mm film too (Tri-X comes to mind).
You also need to make sure that the reels are 100% dry, otherwise the film won't load.
