TOORONGO NARROWS, ON THE TOORONGO RIVER,
NOOJEE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

Two of my recent photographs of a fairly healthy riverine rainforest around 250km from home, and a place I have visited many times since 1998, but only this year successfully got everything together: lighting, healthy green ferns, a not-too-vigorous waterflow and calm conditions! And no bogans skinnydipping in the water (well, it was a damned cold winter's day...). Finally...!

One of the biggest problems photographing this scene is the almost constant parade of people crossing the bridge to and fro and setting up the tripod such that the camera, me and the wandering stock are not at risk of mishap. No sooner had the two exposures been made when the parade of foot traffic started up again.

These are print-profiled production scans (white border, not visible on white PF page, is for frame-up handling) printed to RA-4 Kodak Endura metallic finish media (12x16"), to be matted and framed soon and dispatched to a client in far-flung Singapore. I do not often print larger than 12x16", as the resulting larger framed product is much more costly for frame-up and freight.

_________________________________________________________________________
Both images, Pentax 67 + SMCP 45mm f4, KSM C-POL (full) MLU, 6sec exposure
RVP50 multispot/MWA metered w/ +2.0 baseline and +2.0 FF (subtractive)
In-prep for private collection, Singapore.

...The last, pale photo is how my (not-so-smart) smartphone saw the scene as I crossed the bridge! Pretty ordinary, until...

EVENING TWILIGHT AT 'THE TAOIST TREE',
LAKE BONNEY RIVERLAND,
BARMERA, SOUTH AUSTRALIA (2018)

Lake Bonney is a fresh water body that is part of the wider Murray-Darling system, providing for water sports recreation to the town of Barmera, and also irrigation for extensive wine- and berry-growing industries that are based around the Barmera-Berri districts of South Australia's Riverland area.

The colours are referred to by the terms "Earth's shadow" and "Rise of the Belt of Venus" that occurs on the eastern horizon a few minutes after sunset, with the blue shadow gradually rising and overtaking the mauve to fill the sky. This image shows the effect at its climax. It was finished 3 minutes later.

This image was made on the evening of 16th November 2018. I return to this spot again this year to attempt a full-frame (6x7) symmetrical reflection shot of the tree. This means the shot will be made by shooting in the water (about thigh deep), not from the relatively comfortable and dry shoreline!

Image cropped to faux-6x6 from 6x7, printed 20x20cm +2WB RA-4 on Kodak Endura Professional metallic media.
