Yes lens was wide open for all these shots. I have the 120mm macro, but unfortunately have not made direct comparisons. Thank you for giving me the idea, however, and perhaps I will shoot both for a while and try to compare.

Will you will be using the LS lenses on Pentax 645 cameras? I have been using both P645 and P67 LS lenses on both the K-1 and 645D and 645Z but not on any film cameras. Let me know if you run into any problems, and possibly I can help.

To add a bit of color, which I wouldn't be able to find outside in this dreary rainy day in S. NH USA, here is a portion of a blooming orchid taken under a kilowatt metal halide lamp. (This lamp tends to add a greenish cast to white surfaces, so the yellow is probably a tad green, but auto white balance may have its own opinion.) In the interest of minimal time expended: 645Z jpg using D FA 90mm, no post processing, AF on, SR on.

Wrote a bit too soon -- a clearing front soon came into view. The light also prettified some ornamental grass. (645Z, conditions as above) These were taken in a hurry, hand-held, with shake reduction on, and it seems to be doing the job. I think I'm going to like the 90 D FA macro. Greater care in composition and parameter setting will, of course, yield improvements.

Great to see someone else also using the Z/90 combo. I love my z/90 setup, love the AW too, walking around in the rain with this setup you know that if you can't get good shots you can't blame it on the equipment!

So, following yesterday's entirely genuine post, let me follow up with something rare for me - something where I have done significant Photoshop 'playing' to produce something substantially different from what was...

First, a little explaining. This château is lit up until 2am a variety of garish and ever-changing colours. This means that taking back-to-back shots and stacking them for star trails leads to some rather odd effects. In the sky and on the building, I was able to minimise this through a combination of colour balance, curves and the like - and, in the case of the building, overlaying a single frame with nice lighting. But, in the water area, the movement of the surface (with its consequent scattering of the light) meant that the colours and patterns were all over the place - in a way that interfered with the reflected star trails. So there was no way in which I could get rid of the messy lighting effect and still have genuine reflected trails. Well, apart from re-starting my shoot at 2am - which, on this occasion, I couldn't do.

So, with the picture posted yesterday, I simply accepted I wasn't going to have reflected trails - and used the static shot for that area too. This absence of star reflections often happens anyway with water in motion, when the reflections aren't distinct enough to show up. So it looks convincing. But, being an obsessive, it bothered me! So, I set out to create the reflected scene as well as I could.

And this is what you see here...

By the way, for anyone who doubts that reflected star trails really happen, take a look at these shots. There's no jiggery pokery here - it's entirely genuine:

Very nice castle picture, bukt be glad you were not in Bavaria visiting friends for the weekend or you would be spazieren gehen over hill and dale to see one of those castles up so close you would need a fisheye lens for your snaps!

Yes, it was very misty/foggy...but it kinda cleared by Saturday.
