I think this one is one of my favorites of your images that feature star trails---partly because of the particular arc you got with the 55, such a nice lens. The city looks great here as a support player, and I love the dramatic line in the water under the bridge set against the softness of the rest of the water and those several horizontal-ish lines in the water across the foreground. Great shot.

Picture taken with my "new" Pentax 645n medium-format film SLR. "Five red blossoms and white pot," 1/90s at F9.5, Av, FA-45-85mm lens at 85mm, with Polaroid +1 close up lens, Kodak Portra 400, developed and high-res scans by Dwaye's Photo Lab in Parsons, KS, and some Lightroom adjustments by me. I'm quite pleased by the auto-exposure accuracy of the camera, all my new lenses worked fine, and this is the first time I've tried Portra and I like it very much. I'm also glad my houseplants have been doing so well this year. I've been able to get the orchid to bloom for several years, and this year it had two blooming episodes. I put the cyclamens into dormancy last fall, and they have re-bloomed very well just after the holidays. The rest of the roll is on my Flickr album: Pentax 645n (1997) test, Kodak Portra 400 | Flickr

Yes, I agree - though these days I suspect you could replicate film shots in digital cameras so that people probably can't tell on a blind A vs B comparison. It would probably take some good expert work in post processing, but I bet you could do it. Anyway, I'm really pleased with the way my first Portra roll turned out with my 645n. I think the pictures do have a "film" quality to them, not sure exactly what aspects of the picture say film to me, but they do. Maybe the tonality and little bit of grain when you enlarge them? It was 400 speed film so you can see some grain in the scans at 1:1, though of course much less than you see in 35mm negatives. Grain seems to appear a bit different than the noise in purely digital images.

First Roll With New Lens

February 17, 2020

This is a new addition to my collection of lenses acquired very cheaply on eBay(looks new). I plan to bring it with me
on an upcoming trip to Monument Valley National Park. I am booked for the 3 1/2 hour "photographer" tour
and figure this lens could probably be left on the camera to get most of the compositions that we encounter.

Pentax 645N III, smc PENTAX-FA 645 ZOOM 1:4.5 45-85mm, Kodak T-Max 400
f/19 1/180 ASA 320 +2/3EV, Yellow Filter
T-Max Developer 1:4 7 1/2 Minutes
Epson Perfection V550 Photo

XTOL Developer

My first roll of film with the more environmentally friendly developer for black and white film.
Also, much less expensive...and it appears to show less grain. Now my challenge is to use up
the 5 liters prior to it's expiration of 6 months!
Pentax 645NIII, smc PENTAX-FA 645 ZOOM 1:4.5 45-85mm, XTOL Developer 6 1/2 minutes
f/8.0 1/30 ASA 320 -2/3EV @85mm T-Max 400

Wish I could get up the courage to try developing some of my own film for the 645N, but probably not. As for 6-month expiration, maybe interesting to just keep on using it for effect as some folks use way over-date film for that purpose.

B&W film developing isn't difficult. Give it a try. Just don't try an irreplaceable roll the 1st time.
Thanks,

+1 I don't currently do my own processing (not enough time) but it is something you should try.
