We were defeated yesterday morning. I don’t think we could see low enough on the horizon in our hilly area. Also, the waning moon washed out everything dimmer than about magnitude 3.
I’m hoping we’ll have a shot at it in the evening this week, but we can’t seem to avoid clouds blocking low view angles.
I’m remembering Hale-Bopp, which was bright and high in the sky even in city lights for many evenings. I need to adjust my expectations. This one was only about 7 degrees above the horizon at this latitude for the last week.
