No ND filter was involved, no. I shot very short exposures (1.6 seconds for each one) for 90 minutes. Having exposures this short allows me to use a fairly high ISO (1000) and wide-ish aperture (f5.6) - not ideal for stars, but enough to allow them to show up without burning out the scene horribly. I then took ISO 100 f8 frames for the scene and layered those in. All-in-all, a lot of editing required!
The 645Z has the ability to shoot full size, 1.6 second RAWs back-to-back without the buffer ever filling up. The only limit is card space (assuming the cards are fast enough, of course!). You can see now why I am quite hard on my shutters!
