Another great looking set of images. I bid on a CZ Jena 180 2.8 but didn't win. Already own the Pentax 67 165. Are the 165 and 180 close in rendering on the 645Z?

Thanks,
Can't order any more lenses for awhile. Have a 645 FA400 and Pentax 67 120 soft lens on the way,

Having visited Sydney several times, I really appreciate this picture! Taken from the bridge?

Do I see construction cranes? Eight or nine, I think. Is Sydney CBD undergoing a building boom?

Hi,

That is one really cool shot!

And, I count 12 cranes as well.

Almost as many cranes as radio antennas.

Hi Richard

I think they are now apartments in the cbd / wharf

Land in those areas are worth more as housing than storage.

Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't look enough at Ed's picture. Normally transferring goods from ships is achieved with "cranes"in harbours, I didn't see the "building cranes" all around the City of Sydney, signs of an active construction market and of a bustling economy. Much safer this way (after what happened in Lebanon).

Regards

In the far left skyline of the image, are you counting the two red-lit apparent booms as two cranes? I counted the smaller boom-like structure as a luffing jib supporting the main boom. We would probably need Ed's full resolution image of that zone to be sure.

Thanks everyone for your very kind words about the Sydney Harbour picture. I am glad it worked, because it involved being up until about 4am on a work night!

I have looked closely at the high resolution picture, and can confirm that there are 12 separate cranes in view, all presumably involved in construction work. Sydney has been a focal point of development for quite some time now, so it's not unusual. In general, I find that annoying, but in this case, it was part of what I was trying to express in the shot. That juxtaposition of a traditional scene (old warehouse buildings, etc. - some of the oldest surviving buildings dating back to when Australia was first 'settled'/invaded by the British) and the almost alien-planet scene of modern, towering development. In that context, the cranes almost reminded me of a 'War of the Worlds' scene, with monstrous machines dominating in an impressive yet sinister way. And the stars were intended to play into that...

Those warehouses are certainly not used as warehouses any more - but serve as offices, restaurants and the like. The chimney you can see was intended to serve an inner city power station, which was never completed, making it some sort of folly, I guess...

Why did I have to shoot the scene quite so early in the morning? It's because the floodlights that illuminate the bridge would shine directly into the camera lens here, so the shot isn't really feasible until they go out at 1am.

The vantage point is the southeast pylon of the bridge. One has to stand there, as it's a solid masonry structure. Anywhere else, and the bridge deck moves around as cars and trains pass by, rendering the star trail aspect impossible.

All rather good fun, anyway!
