He wasn't alone when he went, he had the nurse with him. He wouldn't have wanted to have been in a "departure lounge" nursing home awaiting to die at some later date so it was probably for the best...
Oh, no. So very sorry for you and your family.

And these shots seem more poignant in context.

Flight towards Europe.

Pentax 645Z + FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 @ 48 mm FL and f/13. Now I gained confidence in this lens and it never deceives.

So sorry for your loss. It's never easy. Going to lunch today with my dad. Fantastic images.

Thanks for sharing,

Both of these maligned 645 zooms give very similar "gorgeous" results.

FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 @ 55 mm FL

FA 55-110 mm f/5.6 @ 55 mm FL.

Can't really argue with you based on these posts. I'd want to look closer, probably, before I bought...I know people have said that the 45 has gotten a bad rap. My experience was that it wasn't awful. Wasn't great, either. Sold mine.

I have the 33 - 55 and the 55 - 110. The 33 - 55 is not a bad lens at all. On mine the autofocus motor has stopped working, but the lens is useable otherwise - though I have the 28 -45 which is quite a bit better, but a lot heavier and much much more expensive. Sharpness isn't always the be all and end all...

Another from the roof. This is with the A* 300 f/4. 14 shots at 1/320 f/8 ISO 400

Full size tif is 500mp and 1.6GB...

The scarce reviews were absolutely dismal for these two Pentax 645 zooms. I found a 33-55 mm for 400 $ on eBay from Japan and then a 55-110 mm for 210 $ again from Japan. I don't know if the Japanese market receives better products than the rest of the world as Japanese photographers are known to be highly demanding and very keen on their equipment. Anyway, I tested thoroughly these 2 lenses on my 645Z as I was very wary and apprehensive at first. I'm now beginning to feel confident using these 2 small zooms, particularly the FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 as I was never able to put it at fault, though I tried my best. If this had been a lemon, I would have found out and, on the contrary, it proved to be of a very high caliber and totally appropriate to fulfill my landscape needs.

Regards

Below is a photo of the shoals at low tide, FA 55-110 mm f/5.6 @ 98 mm FL : sharp, good contrast, no flare.

Paul, I really am so terribly sorry to hear your news. Sending you loving vibes from the other side of the world... I fully understand what you're saying about it being for the best. A still remember my dear Dad's sudden death in 2009, after a year of suffering with a quite unrelated issue... Everyone's experience is different, but mine has been that the pain and loss never go away; something has shifted forever in the universe; but you learn to live with it and adapt to looking forwards. I'm sure it will take time. Hope your new little one - and the 645Z - help you in the meantime...

Thinking of you, my friend.

Warmest,
Ed

Hi,

Paul, I am also sad to hear about the passing of your Dad. Sadder to hear you missed being with him at the end by the timing of an elevator. I was 1000 miles away when my Dad passed unexpectedly, and on Christmas Day evening. I was supposed to be way up there in the Northern part of New York State rather than in North Carolina, but the weather said to not make the trip up into the Adirondack mountain region.

My Mom, on the other hand, I was with on a daily basis for the six months it took her to pass away from natural causes. So, I am sitting here thinking your experience was fairly akin to mine with her. But, no matter how it unfolds, it is a very sad time and I am sorry that it so happens that that time is here for you.

Pentax 645Z with HD Pentax 645 DFA 35mm F3.5. Arrived home from work at midnight, in the fog. Should have gone to bed, but couldn't resist the fog. Stayed out until 3am.

Thanks for looking,
