New Arsat 30 fisheye lens

Finally decided to pick up an Arsat 30mm fisheye. Some of the landscape and other photos convinced me to take a chance on this Russian lens. It is far better optically than expected. Not HD 35 or DFA 55 levels, but darn decent at f8-11. It is even nicer made than the 16mm russian fisheyes I've used. Even the 645 adapter it shipped with fits nicely. Didn't realize it was an adapter at first. I'm happy.

Now to learn to defish images. Defishing reduces field of view. Would a defished 30mm match a 30mm rectilinear or is the penalty greater?

Thanks for looking,
barondla

I'm on my second Arsat 30. The first was a mount swap to 645 and the current one is adapted nicely too. Nicer than the mount swap which eventually fell apart. They are cheap enough I just bought another.

I think you do lose some mm's depending on how much you defish. Mine is usually making a wider image than my 35mm would make even post defish but I'm shooting landscape more so I might not need to apply as much as something with buildings in it. There is some loss but room to accommodate it in my experience.

Thanks for the info. Your images are among those that convinced me to try the Arsat.
Thanks,

Nice! My first thought when looking at the picture, how do you take a shot like that without getting run over?

I took a couple of pics to stack with the 645z and 120 AF macro and helicoid extension tube. This Hawaiian Hibiscus is growing in our backyard and will produce one flower per day faithfully provided it gets water and sunshine. If the day is cloudy then the flower for the day wont show.

These are the same grove of Cottonwoods as the photo above but from a different location and angle about 10 miles away. They go for miles through ranchland along the river.
Nice to get some mist today for sunrise.

Rocks in the Ste Anne River, QUEBEC. 645Z on tripod, 645 FA 200 mm f/4 @ f/11.

Fall colors are not here yet, so I photographed rocks and water instead.

Second picture taken with 67 M 55-100 mm f/4.5 @ 55 mm, 1/125 sec and f/16. Each visit creates new graphic opportunities. Colors are cooler (more bluish) on the 67 zoom than on comparable 645 lenses but strangely the color of water turns out less blue in these pictures.

More of that fishy water! You are torturing me so! That goes for Matt as well....but here I could put my switch rod to such good use, and with the fall colors....heaven.

Black River, QUEBEC. Another nice trout fishing spot. 67 M 55-100 mm f/4.5 @ 75 mm

Not far from the Ste Anne is a small affluent where trout reproduce in these quiet pools. 645Z + 67 M 55-100 mm f/4.5 @ f/11 and 75 mm FL.
