I posted BW versions of these some back in July. These were taken back then too. I just finally got around to developing the color rolls.

There are two/four days a year when the sun sets directly behind the lighthouse and the Mumbles Head headland. Today was one of them and it has been very wet all day. As I was comforting my teething son, I looked out the front window and noticed clear sky on the horizon behind the headland and the sun just about to emerge from the cloud. My wife took him from me to see if he would eat (he'd been fretful all day cheeks red with teething and with the remainder of a cold making him cough) I grabbed the Z knowing that my 400 f/5.6 was in our rooftop bar. Unfortunately cloud covered most of it, making it look like the headland is one fire...

Z FA 400 f/5.6 at f/5.6 1/250 ISO 800 handheld...

Beautiful Shot.

How's your experience with 400mm? How's the sharpness and detail?

Hi,

It was a rainy day yesterday, so I worked up B+W shots of the NC lighthouses. We had an arts and crafts show on Saturday and I am now getting requests for B+W of both the quilt blocks as well as paper prints. The project continues to grow.

Anyway, here's the latest one I shot in B+W:

Stan

Edit: I forgot! This is the Cape Lookout lighthouse. Number 5 of 7 as one travels Southbound along the Graveyard Of The Atlantic. It is also the most difficult to get to, requiring a ride in a small boat. Three of the seven need boat rides, but the for other two one can get a ferryboat.

All seven are of different colors and/or patterns. This one is the only one where the pattern tells us more than just which lighthouse it is. The black diamonds are oriented North and South, the white are East and West. This is the East side we are looking at, noonish light for October.

After I got back, I put the A*300/4 on with the 2x TC and you can just make this thing out way in the distance.

That island you see out there is much closer than the island the lighthouse is standing on. It'd have been more epic a shot if we could see just how much water is between us and the lighthouse.

Stan

Thanks. That piece I call The Living and The Dead. This year marks the 10th year of taking a portrait of these two trees. I usually take the picture from same position. But this year I had to change where I stand due to an ever-increasing steep slope just to my right. The area was much flatter in the beginning and the trees were twice as tall. Maybe my last shot of them will be a few branches sticking out of empty sand.

Please treat us to all of them! I know you've posted examples in the past, but the 10th anniversary seems special, so a post or 2 with them all would be cool.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm going to make that a winter project. I've used a bunch of different cameras over the years. Older film versions need to be rescanned and maybe convert some digital to BW or something. I never intended to make this a long term thing until about 4 years ago. Before that I just snapped a shot of them has I hiked by heading for a different destination. But now I feel more compelled - obligated - to not miss a year.

The third picture with the trees in the sand dune is exceptional. Thanks for sharing.

Yasir, those pictures of Pakistan are really nice. I think I need to add a trip to Pakistan to my bucket list.

This salamander was very patient with you posing for a shot like that. Great shot.

We went hiking these past couple of weekends and although we had a late starts every time I still got some bright sunlight pictures. These are tough hikes with multiple mountains and trails going up what seems never-ending and then going down to sea level again, just to go up again. The reward is a spectacular view of Hong Kong's green belt areas.

Pictures taken with 645z with 6x7 M 55-100mm and FA 45-85mm.

FA 45-85: The boating channel between Hong Kong Harbour and the shores of the Northern Territories. The plateau of the island is a very popular camping spot for loacal back packers. Access to the island is by speed boat only.

FA45-85: A popular group of island for boat diving trips with diving opportunities for all skills levels. Weather permitting of course.

FA 45-85: Entrance to a protected bay to two of the many popular beaches in Hong Kong. Clearwater bay Beach #1 and #2.

6x7 55-100mm: Panorama view over the shores of the Northern Territories, the green belt of an otherwise concrete jungle city.

20201018-Sai Wan Hike-12
by Theuns vanNiekerk, on Flickr

6x7 55-100mm: Hiking is very popular in Hong Kong and backpackers from the city flood the countryside to go camping on the remote beaches. You can see one of the hiking trails going up the mountain in the distance. Good luck on that one.

6x7 55-100mm: Camping in the rough. On this mountain range there are a couple of remote beaches, some with local shops where you can stock up on supplies, or have a meal. The further away you go the ability to buy supplies diminish. At the furthest beaches you only find the die hard back packers. A nice break from an otherwise densely populated city.
