Pentax 67 M 90-180 mm f/5.6 side-by-side with 645 FA 80-160 mm f/4.5.

Pictures of the 67 M 90-180 mm f/5.6 zoom compared to the 645 FA 80-160 mm f/4.5. Both are quite big and heavy. The 645Z body + 67 M 90-180 mm zoom weigh over 6 pounds (2,75 Kg). The 67 lens has an outside diameter of 95 mm while the 645 zoom needs only a 77 mm filter. (Sorry for the dust and the lint but at least the glass is clean !)

Hi,

Man! Don't slip off the wet rock and dunk that 25mm. Or, the camera. Dunking just yourself is OK, though.

Hi,

I love both shots. Especially the reflections in the water.

Thx for the reminder - this is the same lens that detached from its own mount ring and fell into the desert sand in Bishop, CA back in May. I thought it was a goner, but with patience, research, and some steady hands, i got it put back together.

In my early years of wading out into the ocean or rivers for shots, I was prone to losing many a polarizer/ND filter as they slipped off my butter fingers and into the drink.

This is the Rio Vista Bridge, in Sacramento county. It has a more exciting name, "The Helen Madere Memorial Bridge", but most people around here just know as the former.

You need one of these:A Closer Look at Stripping Baskets - Flylords Mag DIY options are great, as are the soft ones. At least they wouldn't go into the drink!

Thanks for these comparison images. The front of the 67 lens is much larger, The rest of the lens doesn't look much different. Glass is heavy, so the lens is likely much more front heavy.

Thanks for posting,

You're welcome ! Don't even mention it.

Regards

P.S. Comparison pictures will follow as soon as I can. I have plenty of medical appointments these days and the weather is miserable.

645Z + 67 M 90-180 mm f/5.6 - first impressions.

Three images of the Sainte Anne River taken handheld at 1/125 sec and f/11 (upper one @ 120 mm FL, second one @ 150 mm FL and third @ 90 mm FL) in furious wind and waning sunlight and one image of the parochial cemetery on tripod at 150 mm FL. Photo-taking conditions were despicable and I'll have to return on a better day. Images of the river are not too bad but a tripod would probably have brought better definition. The cemetery image is VERY SHARP @ f/8, critically focused on the steeple and well supported on a tripod. It started to snow right after and I had to call it a day ... &#@$%*

Test of the 67 M 90-180 mm f/5.6 @ 90 mm FL between f/45 and f/16 on tripod.

Before the snow, I had the time to shoot these 4 images in Av mode @ 90 mm FL. The first one at 1/8 sec and f/45, the second one at 1/20 sec and f/32, the third one at 1/40 sec and f/22 and the fourth and last one at 1/100 sec and f/16. The 2 smallest apertures (f/45 and f/32) are quite poor because of the onset of diffraction and almost unusable. F/22 is barely "acceptable" while f/16 is "very good". It was cold and windy and fortunately, I could mount the camera on my solid Manfrotto 028 tripod. After this session, I had to pack up and drive home safely before dark and roads getting slippery.

Last image @ 180 mm FL with the 67 M 90-180 mm f/5.6, 1/100 sec and f/16

Tripod-mounted 645Z + 67 M 90-180 mm @ 180 mm FL and f/16. Quite sharp and contrasty. Its best apertures seem to be between f/8 and f/16, f/8 being the optimum for a flat subject. Contrast is a joy to observe and contributes to the impression of sharpness of the image.
