Tested my old 600mm A* 645 lens today. The picture below of the pigeon is with the 600mm lens and TC1.4 at f/6.7 ISO3200 1/1000 and cropped 40%. I'm quite happy with the result. I also had to unpack my heavy duty tripod because my normal hiking tripod could not keep it still with the TC 1.4 which equates to 840mm focal length. The aperture of 6.7 is what is set on the dial, but is actually f/11. Unfortunately the 645 TC does not translate the aperture setting, but merely passes it through to the camera. I found closing the aperture more reduces the sharpness, and at f/5.6 (actual f/9) the DoF is too shallow to be used practically.

After a couple of test shots I pushed the mounting plate forward on the head so that the whole rig is unbalanced and forward leaning. This added some tension to the setup and reduced the vibrations a lot. This increased sharpness a lot, so much so that on a 200% crop you can read the label on the signal booster and make out that it was made in Japan.

I love watching Ozzy Man Reviews. BTW, your picture is a ripper.
By the way - if anyone hasn't gone to YouTube and watched some Ozzy Man Reviews, it's very funny - though not perhaps for the easily offended!

Midwestern US is having a terrible snow storm. We aren't used to snow with temperatures reaching 0 F and below. Staying inside mostly, but did photograph this little guy thru a window. Feel sorry for him and the other animals. The brutal temperatures with 16mph winds are rough on the wildlife.

Pentax 645z with FA300mm F5.6 at ISO 2500.

Thanks for looking,

WSSA 513PX for Rupert. I miss him.

I regularly push it up to ISO 12k and in some rare occasions can tolerate 25k.

This picture of the cat is at ISO 12k.

Hi,

I think the look on the kitty's face says: OMG! That camera is big enough to eat me!

It's all in the interpretation. I'm going with, "Put down that stupid toy and feed me something delicious."

We were actually watching a movie on the big screen and the cat took an unusual interest in following along. Once I had the shot set-up, I called his name and he looked at me rather annoyed because he was spell-bound in watching the movie. Weird cat. He and his brother also likes to play in water. Go figure.
