My first (that I can remember!) post that's not a response to someone else's fotografic art.

Thursday the 14th I had a serious cataract removed from my right (dominant} eye.. Because I had one removed from my left, nondominant eye several years ago, I had some idea what to expect in changes in brightness and color balance, but these current changes, perhaps because it's my dominant eye, are HUGE. One result of these changes is that all the pics I look at seem to be a big overbright and a bit cool in color balance. but I suppose I'll get used to that.

After getting tired (again!) of my too-small-body Sony FF camera, this time my 2nd a7R4, I ordered a couple weeks ago a Fuji GFX 100S system, mostly from B&H but also several Pertax lenses thru eBay. The (used) body and Ptx 150-300 lens are arriving Monday; I already have Fuji 32-64 plus 23 and 30 primes, and Pentax 55/2.8 plus the 150-300 and 45-85 zooms..

I'm 77 and a bit feeble and can't easily handle heavy lenses and cameras, so the '100S system will be used almost exclusively on a tripod, while my Fuji X-T4 system will be my walkabout/backup system.

We'll see how this goes; I'm sure looking forward to it!
Sounds exciting. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
Thanks,
barondla

I like the second picture, looks so other-worldly, or Icelandic.

That second image is outstanding. I like the first one too, of course, but the second blows me away. I can only imagine what a big print of it would look like on 6x17 format. Can't decide if the main rock is phallic or reminiscent of an Easter Island head. But the composition, the mood, the tones. Stunning. Well done, my friend.
Thanks you guys.

I started looking already. The feet on this tripod are pretty wide at about 34mm with a 3/8" stud that has a hex key Allen wrench built into it.
I think this should be a standard part for more than one tripod brand. I also lost an important part of my Novoflex Triopod Tripod. The part wasn't available via the internet catalog. So I contacted them by email. I got the missing part very fast - great support. Novoflex also offers such a rubber cap - at least in combo with the spike - on the internet. Maybe it would also fit your tripod? In case of interest have a look here.

CCD dahlias

A few more dahlias before our first killing frost, somewhat overdue already, ends the gardening season for the year.

645D with Pentax 67 75mm f 2.8. The 75mm/2.8 with its 41cm MFD allows larger dahlias to fill the frame, no cropping required.

Very nice Ivan, thank you for sharing. I've always found taking pictures of flowers and children to be the most difficult.

Thanks for your kind words. Birds fly away just when I think I have a shot, and children jump up and run around, and I have even had them reach out and whack the camera! Flowers are fairly passive, and just wait until I have every thing set right for the shot, well unless the wind starts blowing. It is humbling to view the work of all the talented landscapists in this group, but still most folks can stand to look at an occasional flower.

Great picture Ed, although I must say I don't think that camera can use that lens to its full capability. It failed to resolve the individual treads and risers on the staircase going up from the waterfront. And you can't see the color of the paint on the underside of the handrail either.

Just joking of course...

Another subject I find difficult to photograph is the Wild Dog.

Whenever I've seen them they were either on the hunt, or sniffing each other's back ends or sleeping.

Fortunately I've never seen them catching a prey because that I believe is a horror story on its own.

I did get this one shot during a brief moment when they started to wake up to set out on a hunt. It seemed as if they only had a singular strategy that day, which was to start running into the wind and see what they come across.

They did cross paths with an Oryx which they chased for a few kilometers. The Oryx found some old buildings and stopped in a corner, it turned around and faced the pack of dogs. Being weary of some lethal horns and hoofs with no opportunity to get behind the animal, the dogs eventually backed down and continued their endless running.

We continued to follow them, until they sussed out a mother cheetah and her juvenile cub. The cheetah soon disappeared being a lot more skilled in being stealthy when it chooses to be 'invisible'.
