Thanks to Matt Burt . . .

UPS just delivered a beautifully packaged landscape photograph called "Mill Creek Valley" and signed by fellow Pentaxer Matt Burt! You can thumb back on this thread to see the original image. I was quite taken by the photograph when Matt first posted it, and now "Mill Creek Valley" will overlook the piano in our music room. Thanks, Matt, for the trouble you took to prepare a professional print and to ship it in a very secure package.

Something Different

I found this ant on the kitchen counter the other day. To keep him in one place while I got my gear ready I drew a water moat around him with a wet finger. Once I was ready I made the moat smaller and smaller until he would stay within my focus area. Eventually he broke out and discovered he can walk on water.

I finally blocked his way with a tooth pick, which also brought an element of scale into the image. I could not resist measuring the tooth pick with a caliper. It is exactly 1.857mm in diameter, not 2mm and also not 1.5mm but 1.857!! So now I know how tall the ant was.

The ant actually has some unique climbing skills. It anchored its #2 left leg at the top of the tooth pick and used it to help hoisting up the rest of his body during the climb. I briefly considered giving this super athlete a medal for effort but instead decided to let him be on his way.

This post is a tribute to our times where we avoid contact with other people, Now I am starting to notice ants!!!

I think these ants are left overs from the British era. :-)

Those clouds are amazing. I wonder how many tons of water are drifting around in them.
