Impressive as ever, Ed - my funniest recollection of Whitby is of a review on trip advisor where someone complained that their 18 month old child could have hurt himself because of the lack of railings on the steps as they let their child walk on the steps by themselves.

I -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I decided to test whether the HDR was at all necessary. I do them so infrequently now. So I picked one of the 6 second exposures. I have attached an unedited version, and an edited version which I have cropped a little...

Well after processing that one, my MacBook crashed. Now it won't see the external drive all my GFX files are on. Looks like I am going to pay for not backing up the hard drive. GRRRR

I can hear the drive trying to spin. Been having one or two issues with the USB-C sockets. I have apple care on the MBP and have booked it in to the genius bar tomorrow, but I think the hard drive is toast. Along with thousands of images...Three years worth

Hi,

I like them all. But, if i gotta choose one, #3. Shows the whole mess and now I know what the lights are for.

The disc is spinning in a whiny sort of way, but neither my MacBook nor my iMac can see it. My wife has reorganised the office in such a way that there isn't space on the plug etensions for my large external hard drives that I was using for back ups....

I feel your pain and panic mate. But try not to give up hope. There's a good chance that a data recovery specialist will be able to salvage the files. When I have had issues, the registry has messed up the file indexing but the actual image data is there.

Fingers crossed! Keep us posted.

Have found a company saying they are a family run company called essential data services. They charge a fixed fee of £295+VAT and don’t charge if they can’t access any data. I’m off to Korea on Wednesday so will likely need to do this when I get back at the end of the month

I am sure it will be an agonising wait, my friend. But hang in there... I have had this happen to me in various ways twice, and on both occasions, the data was recovered. In one case, the files were a bit messy but could be fully retrieved with a bit of effort (things like file extensions changed in non-obvious ways, etc.). So don't give up hope! The chances are good, I'd say, partly based on what you said happened. It's not like you dropped the drive into water or had lightning strike it. My only advice in the meantime is not to power it up any more...

P.S. Keep taking pictures! Don't let this depress you about the whole business :-)

Scan of an old picture, P 67 II + 55 mm f/4 @ f/16, 15 sec exposure, Ektar 100.

Found in my Archives. Black River in late autumn. The sun shone for just a few minutes on this dark, cloudy day. I mounted my Pentax 67 II + late model 55 mm f/4 on a tripod and exposed for 15 seconds @ f/16 on Ektar 100 negative film. I focused on my foreground "anchor", fallen leaves floating on water and slowly turning in a vortex. Rapid flow created the fuzzy white water phenomenon. I should try to take a new digital version with my 645Z + FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 to compare results ...

Love the Pentax 67 55mm f 4.0, which I call my syrup bucket lens, one of the best for sure.

The Church of St. Mary and All Saints in Chesterfield (Derbyshire, UK) is famous for its crooked spire. Stories and explanations abound of how the spire came to be so distorted, from the prosaically engineering-based to the mythically fabled. But whatever the cause, it's very striking indeed. The spire was added to the church in circa 1362 and is both twisted and leaning: the 45-degree twist causes the tip to lean 9 ft 6 in (2.9 m) off-centre.

And this version has had a sky digitally added (just a bit of fun!); the astronomers amongst you will spot that it's a Southern Hemisphere sky added to a Northern Hemisphere scene!

I love the subtle colours of #2 but also the colours, composition and receding wall of fog in #3. Very nice indeed.

I have the A 55/2.8 but of course I've only ever used it on film, so it'll be nice to see how it performs on digital. The colours on that wall art are amazing - I think you might have found your perfect CCD sensor...
