Melbourne's South Bank, shot hand-held on GFX100S with Pentax 645 25mm DA lens - really as a test of how the resolution suffers with perspective corrections in post. N.B. it suffered too much for me!

Most pictures get too much perspective correction, including the ones captured with shift lenses, I would say. The human eye doesn't see building with completely straight verticals, IMO images should be only partially corrected for a realistic look.

Fully agree - but an interesting test, built to stress things to the maximum :-)
The resolution in the most-affected areas is significantly reduced.

Went hiking in the lake area at Strausberg yesterday.

#1 & #2: 645z + FA35mm

#3 & #4: 645z + FA200mm + P645 1.4TC

#1 is a 5 picture panorama. Bright sunny day, no clouds, just hot. Luckily we were mostly in the shade covered by overhanging trees.

#4 is a lucky shot (with heavy crop) of a bug which was part of a swarm of bugs zig-zag flying around at high speeds. I set the focus at an average distance, guessing where most of the swarm would be, pressed the shutter and hoped for the best. Shutter speed at 1/1000 was too slow, perhaps 1/4000 would have been better. Anyhow I got an almost picture of one bug :-)

Interesting comparison between the unedited FA35mm and the FA200mm was that the FA35mm images have much nicer color tones and contrast, whereas the FA200mm was flat and colors rather washed out, under similar conditions. Editing fixed a lot, but it was a stark contrast between the two lenses.

Hi,

I like the single Lanc as well. Except....too much shutter speed. His props are stopped. If they were really like that, the next shots would be of a ditching....

But, I'm betting the situation didn't lend itself to a lower shutter speed.

They aren't completely stopped, but I'm not great at technique for using a slower shutter speed

I'm with you on this. I've seen quite a few pictures of buildings taken with tilt and shift lenses and they don't look real, they always look overcorrected. We need something that is a half way house - looking at something in actual 3D will never be the same as looking at an image in 2D.

With the eyes we see a 50mm equ. type perspective (ratio of near to far dimensions), which show non vertical lines for buildings, but of course not as oblique as with a 20mm equ. lens. Software correction will always reduce resolution, can't be otherwise, hence the benefit of a shift adapter / shift lenses.

Absolutely - I just wanted to know how much it would do so in a case such as this. I harboured hopes that, since the file starts as 102MP, the edited version may be tolerable at normal levels of enlargement. However, I was sobered to discovered this is not so... Obviously if one makes less aggressive corrections or shoots in a way that requires less correction, it may stray into an acceptable zone!
