Looks promising, nice body built, can use current lenses (i can see the mad rush already on eBay) i want to see image samples from the 40mp sensor.

I like how most of the most used functions have been assigned buttons or off the dial. Definitely going right back to the original 645's main target market, fashion photographers. (i wonder if they'll send one to benjamin?)

Wowee. Pretty damn good looking, too.

Also interesting: "The PENTAX 645D incorporates a high-performance CCD image sensor produced by Kodak."

Possible behind-the-scenes Kodak-Pentax relationship going on..?

Not really, they're just one of the few makers of sensors that size.

Nah, more likely they just bought one of Kodak. Believe it or not, you don't need some intricate relationship with a company to do business with it .

Interestingly, the smc PENTAX-D FA 645 55mmF2.8 AL[IF] SDM AW "also provides an image circle covering the image area of existing 645-format film SLR cameras".

They seem to make ok sensors, but really crappy cameras. Kind of like Sony. Both Pentax and Nikon have taken Sony sensors and run circles around Sony's own offerings.

The new 55 (most likely will be a kit lens) is SDM, IF and AW ...nice now hopefully there are not too many SDM failures with the new future lenses? I think they're running 2 SD slots so that helps because those 40mp files will be actually much larger if you're going to do in camera stuff. If the reviews on this are at least 60% positive from working pros, i wouldn't mind forgoing FF 35, my vacation pics would be HUGE ..LOL

Now I have to wait a while after my other recent purchase. I'm hoping it'll drop in price in the next year, but it seems very reasonable already...

Looks like it will be a fine camera, though it would be nice if ISO range of 200-1000 (100-1600) were greater. Sure wish I was a fashion photographer, then it would seem like a steal at USD 9400, compared to the Leica or Hasselblad - I'd buy one in an instant. Since I am not, it remains something nice to to think about, like drum scanners and Ferrari cars...

My 645 was trashed recently and I found replacements in excellent condition for about USD 250, including shipping. Just think if I bought one and used the remainder of USD 9400 for film and processing...should last me the rest of my earthly years!

Best, Alan

This camera sounds like it is really great. I cannot wait to see some images. I also can't wait to see how much I can sell my FA 80-160mm for.

If this camera comes to the US at the under $10K price and isn't bug ridden it'll take a nice chunk of the pro/high end amateur market for that format. Will create real chaos in that part of the segment - medium format and full frame - that it is appropriate for. Sounds like it will be great for the brand.

Now I have to decide if I want to buy that Leica or one of these

$9400 + sales tax is $10k to me. But I guess it is the psycological effect like the $9.99 item is not 10 dollars thing and the tipping point for you. Also, other MF camera makers use Kodak's sensors too. Its not like this is some unique deal.
