Holy crap!! Someone just bought a TON of Pentax 645 lenses from KEH. I was looking at the Fa 200mm and all but one are gone now. All the zooms are gone, and all the FA 120mm lenses as well. There were a ton on there yesterday. Bummer. I guess poeple are expecting a price hike and are trying to position themselves to make some money.

Ouch, that's really going to be a bummer for 645 shooters. They're suppose to be enjoying the benifit of good prices on older analog gear that the masses didn't want. No luck now, I guess.

They could have pulled them for re-pricing but honestly i want to see what other new lenses they have for the 645D, now don't hate me but i really didn't think there were any "special" 645 lenses

Do you mean special prices or sepcial as in the rendering?

Considering the original prices they are pretty cheap. I think the FA 645 200mm f/4 was like $700-800 new. Now at KEH (until today) it was $around $300 used.

As far as rendering, I think the bokeh on my 80-160mm is pretty nice and my 120mm macro is a pretty great lens.

No hate here, just curiousity - How many of the 645 lenses did you have a chance to try out?

The FA 35mm is quite "special" and the bokeh on FA 150mm is quite nice. I too like the FA 80-160 bokeh. The FA 33-55mm is quite interesting and unique and I am getting to know that little by little. The A 55mm is really sharp and portable.

Have you used the FA35, 120Macro, FA300EDIF?

Nah, more likely they just bought one of Kodak. Believe it or not, you don't need some intricate relationship with a company to do business with it .

Interestingly, the smc PENTAX-D FA 645 55mmF2.8 AL[IF] SDM AW "also provides an image circle covering the image area of existing 645-format film SLR cameras".
D-FA 645 55/2.8 is probably optically the same lens as the A55/2.8 with digital coating/improvements. It was one of the lens that they did not update from A to Fa when the 645N came out. I am not surprised at all with a slightly smaller sensor that 56X42 that they bring out a FA version of this lens now.

I'm not sure if it was one somebody or multiple somebodies. Every time I check there are fewer lenses left. Everybody's speculating now; I wouldn't be surprised to see them leak back out into the market over the next couple of years....

loads of pictures...

Pentax 645D with clear plastic...

lens lineup looks like a lot of the old, familiar FA lenses and some A lenses (600mm)

Are there any full-sized sample shots from the 645D floating around?

Yeah....for twice the price. I guess if I sell my FA 80-160mm I am just as bad.

Speculating is likely. But risky too.

The 645D has very tight requirements on lens quality. The lenses made for Leica's S2 have some stellar MTF curves (like border values of up to 80% at 40 lp/mm ...).

A good performer on 645D has to render good MTF (~ 50%) at 80 lp/mm rather than at 40 lp/mm as was usually required for film.
(And 50% at 80 lp/mm indeed means ~80% at 40 lp/mm ...)

So, if at all, I would speculate with top-notch 645 glass only.

I am sure the newer designs will be better lenses for the purpose of digital use. They have to be, in order to cover the cropped sensor with the same resolution as the older lenses had for full MF. They will also need to have non-reflective coating on the rare element. And likely other tweaks I am not geek enough to think of.

Interesting...that's why I was wondering if any of the old 645 glass was even sharp enough for the 645D...
