Poll: Buy a 645D?

I'm from the UK and currently first year in my press & editorial course mainly photojournalism. Currently shoot with the K-7

I imagine after 2 more years I'll be in a better position to look at medium format cameras - skipping full frame. I expect by then maybe we'll be on a 2nd revision of the 645D maybe?

Anyway I just wonder how many of you plan or are seriously thinking of buying one in the future when they come available in the US and Europe markets.

Remembering the current price of $9400

want and will are different

I'm definitely in the market for a 645 -- for a MF folder, not this fine tool. Even if Uncle Ray drinks the kool-ade and remembers me in his will, I'll have other things to do with US$20k (body, lenses, etc). Were I a working pro, I might think and do otherwise. I'm happy with occasionally exercising my 6x6 and 6x6 folders. If I really wanted to shoot MF seriously, I'd borrow a relative's now-unused Bronica system, use it, scan the negs/transparencies, etc. That's still the most cost-effective way to work in that format, or in FF.

There are no CMOS. Need 50-800 ISO. Why 1.1 fps? Pentax need to change better.

You're funny :P It's medium format, not your normal DSLR. Compare its specs to other medium format cameras.

Those 1.1 FPS can do plenty. I hardly ever use more than that for birds, sports or anything else, and it has an upgraded auto focus system compared to the K-x, so what I can do with the K-x, I can do with the 645D.

I so want this camera!

I'd be very tempted in a few years - if I already had some decent Pentax 645 glass. However, this will likely cause the old glass to get more expensive and as the new glass won't probably be too cheap either, on the whole this will be out of my range.

I voted no because MF idea doesn't make sense to me, 645D is for today, not for tomorrow, some people is forgetting the time dimension of the digital development. I mean I strongly believe, in 2-3 years SLR's will catch up the 645 IQ quality, maybe even better nobody will need carrying a bulky MF camera for extra megapixels which is needed today....
Unless 645 lens lineup is far superior than the SLR lenses, which is unlikely.

And why do you think the DSLR-s will keep developing and the 645 won't?

If the DSLR will catch up with the 645 in a few years (what i really doubt) than the 645 of that time will also be much better than the present 645.

And don't start with "nobody needs more than 40MP" because it will become even legendary as "640Kb should be enough for everybody"

I am almost certain that i never will be able to affort a 645, but wow, i really would love to own one.

Of course I don't think that way, all cams have to develop, but unfortunately I have to ask your unwanted question in two different ways,

1-What is your upper limit for resolution? I recommend you to check Nikon D3x results before answering at imaging resource.com if you haven't done it yet.

Digital Cameras, Nikon D3X Digital Camera Test Image

2-What extra pixels would do if they are more than lens glass' resolution power?

The difference between the two will continue to shrink, and both will be above a certain bar, making the expense and size overhead of the larger format less and less attractive.

I know

The need fof Mp keeps groing. My first Digital cam was a Fuji Finepix 602z (that i still own.)
That was an enormous 3Mp, and produced very large pictures
It costed me the same amount of money as my present K7.

I really use (and need) the Mp of my K7. I am using it a lot for digitilizing very old documents. The oldest so far of the year 1600. Very fragile paper, so flash or scanning is no option. Only thing left is taking pictures with the avaiable light.
I started with this digitilizing with the Fuji, but the difference is enormous.
