Please enlighten me with regards to Tamron Adaptall

Both my Adaptall 1 lenses have auto/manual switches, so can be used with an M42 mount and then an adapter. But I haven't tried.

Thanks to all there was some great info shared. After playing with the 28-70 a little , I was quite pleasantly surprised. I guess my next question is , are there any real dogs in the line that I should avoid?

I'd concentrate mainly on the SP versions, especially the primes. The 300mm f2.8 lenses are very good as is the 400mm f4 and the 300mm f5.6. Everyone knows about the 90mm macros. As far as the SP zooms, the 19AH (70-210 f3.5) is sought after as is the 30A (80-200mm f2.8) constant aperture zooms. The SP 70-150mm (51A) that has the switchable soft focus feature is also sought after and the 01A 35-80mm is highly regarded. There are some of the regular Adaptall 2 that are good as well. I have the adapt 2 24mm lens and like it don't really intend to go after any of the other adapt-2. I don't particularly care for the original adaptall series but some people do. I just as soon have the adaptamatics as those.

My copy of the 28 to 70 is my least favorite of the adaptall. It is slow (f3.5) and fairly soft at wide open. The rest of the adaptall SP lens are great with some that rivals OEM lenses in image quality.

I do like the SP 300 f2.8, SP 80 to 200 f2.8, SP 200 f3.5, SP 90 f2.5 and the SP 70 to 210 f3.5.

I'd like to ask how sturdy are these Adaptall K mount adapters? I've read some horror stories about how an M42 to K-mount adapter hasn't been rigid enough for a heavier lens and it's fallen off. Is there such a risk with the bigger Adaptall lenses?

The Adaptall 2 mounts are sturdy. I have the KM, PKA, XR-P, FD, and EOS-M adaptall 2 mounts and all are solidly built.

Thanks. Well, now I have a further question (which may seem funny as I own the equipment in question): How does one attach an Adaptall mount to the lens (and detach from it)? I have an old 2nd hand Tamron 28mm f2.5 which came with the Adaptall-2 (KM) mount attached and another PKA adapter which I bought without a lens. As I don't wish to ruin the adapter or the lens when taking them apart, is there a tutorial

for this advanced procedure?

EDIT: OK, I think I figured it out. At least I think it caused no major damage to the mount, lens or myself and it's again in one piece.

To remove:

Aperture ring on widest setting
Depress small chrome lever-button
Twist off

To mount:

Aperture ring on widest setting
Align green index marks
Twist on until you feel the "click"
Seat tabs in fittings
