FF lenses for the K-1 that can be bought new
Posted By: Class A, 02-20-2016, 07:36 AM

We all know there is a ton of great FF glass available on the used market that will work great with the K-1.

However, which are the currently available FF lenses (in current catalogues of lens manufacturers) that can be used with the K-1?

Below is a list that started with an initial compilation I did and then attracted a number of later additions by several contributors. There may be still some missing and please post to this thread with information about the lens (but please make sure the lens is in production). I'll then add it to the list.

If you have used any of the listed lenses on the K-1 and find that they do not perform like a proper FF lens, please post to this thread as well. There are some DA (APS-C) lenses included which have been tested as "good for FF" on film cameras but due to differences between film and digital sensors, there may be a few surprises (although I tried to be conservative and only included those that would be true surprises if they failed the "K-1 test".)

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I realise that there is also another current FF lenses overview but the latter contains discontinued lenses and I think there is value in maintaining a list of lenses that can be bought brand new. Not everyone is prepared to go hunting on the used market. A very nice feature of the aforementioned alternative compilation is that many third-party FF lenses can found organised in roadmap-style charts.

Regarding the suitability of certain DA (APS-C) lenses, I included a few that a truly FF capable based on their design and user reports. There is a far larger number of DA lenses with OK to marginal performance on an FF camera. These have not been included in this list, even though some users may find them acceptable (in particular using the K-1's 1:1 crop mode). A useful resource on the performance of DA lenses on an FF camera is falconeye's "DA lenses on Full Frame: Test shots" thread.

The DA 560mm is officially a FF lens. Do you have any proof that it's not decent at the frame edge?
I have proof that is vignettes less than a Sigma 35 Art. Probably someone need to tell Sigma that by a little forist's opinion the Sigma 35 is not a full frame lens.
And a dozen of other lenses as well. It's just a matter of subjective "definition".

How does a mathematician catch an elephant using a phone booth? He just steps into the booth and defines the part beyond the door as "inside". Done.

DA*60-250 may work if you come from ASPC and need glass to go with.
DA 60-250 does not work on K-1 un-modified, IMHO. There is a distinct vignette. Not a little vignetting in the corner which is common with many lenses but an actual circle. However, by removing the baffle mentioned by Na Horuk it becomes completely FF with no noticeable vignette. I have done so and it works very well.

Here is the thread on this if anyone is interested: DA* 60-250 mod for FF - PentaxForums.com and here: DA 60-250 replacement baffle - PentaxForums.com

Counting lenses with "bit of vignetting" does not qualify in my opinion. DA*55, DA*60-250 and DA560
Others have posted about the 60-250 and 560, I can talk about the DA*55.

According to Photozone, IIRC, it vignettes less than the FA50 f1.4. It is physically a bigger and heavier lens, with a 58mm filter size.

I think you need to appreciate that all 35mm lenses vignette, you just didn't notice it on APS-C.

Lightroom makes it a non-issue IMHO even for lenses shot wide open at infinity.

Check Falco's thread, where your fellow forum members have collected data and samples in this topic since *2008*.

Summary: There are not many DA primes that don't work. While there aren't many zooms that do work, even then some are fine at the long end, like the DA55-300 and DA12-24.

@Class A: two more manual lenses in K mount, both emanating from the net SE group, the firm which is also behind the resurrection of Meyer Optik Görlitz:

2/ Oprema Jena Biotar 75mm f/1.5 - re-edition of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 75mm f/1.5 ((Willy Merté, 1938)

I rented the Samyang (or Rokinon) 16mm F2.0 ED AS UMC CS lens, but it had heavy vignetting on full frame. The lens rental company stated it was FF compatible, but refunded my money when they realized that it was APS-C only. You might want to remove that one from this FF list, unless there's a version 2 that is FF compatible that I don't know about.

Indeed, CS means "Crop Sensor" in Samyang's terminology and the corresponding lenses are APS-C only.

I will, as soon as Adam has released the post for editing. It has been locked due to age.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks to Mistral75 for the explanation of the terminology.

I just acquired a DA 40mm 2.8 XS, it appears to be fullframe, no vignetting (or at least not much that I can notice, I do tend to shoot center weighted often).
