Carrying Kr with Sigma 150-500

Hi,
I'm keen to be able to carry in a bag my Kr with Sigma 150-500 attached. Struggling to find a bag but that is a different story.
When I bought the Sigma I was strongly cautioned to carry / support the camera / lens by the lens since it being so much heavier would damage the camera if I put the weight on the camera. This all makes sense.
Using the same logic is it a bad idea to carry them around / travel connected? Or are most camera bag tightly padded enough that the lens and camera won't twist and subject the mount to stress?

Cheers,
Steve

Traveling with it attached wouldn't put as much strain on the camera IMO as it would with general use without the lens being supported. It also depends on what you mean by "traveling". I'd put the two connected in a bag that I made sure wouldn't get jarred or banged around. If you were traveling long distances or traveling where there is a lot of motion, I'd disconnect them just to be safe.

I use the Lowepro Flipside 300 which allows me to have the K5 & 150-500 attached on one side & enough smaller sections to carry 3 smaller lenses. It is also quite comfortable to wear.

I have found no issues leaving the lens attached as the bag has good padding all round.

When I use the combo I mostly carry by the tripod mount.

Carrying it vertically should alleviate any stress on the camera body. I use a Lowpro Toploader 75 with my K7 + 100-300 or 70-200 (with the hood extended). The bag is comfortable to use, and has room for filters/memory cards/brushes/extenders and so on.

I carry a 7 kgs FA*600 with K5 attached in a lovepro bag, without issue for the K5. As usual the lens is vertically, pointing down.

I just pick up the Think Tank 30 V2.0 to carry my K-5 and 150-500 vertically. Fits very well and has an expandable bottom portion. Also has a shoulder strap and belt attachment.

dude, I didn't know they made a bag that could fit that beast. The FA 600 is about the biggest lens you can get for Pentax!

Thanks for all the pointers, I bought a

Calumet Pro Series 740 Medium Backpack

in the end as I was looking for more of a transporting from A to B type solution as apposed to a holster. Seems to keep the lens in firm grip in the padding so I'm not worried about stressing the lens mount.
Cheers,
Steve
