Can I preset focus distance on the k-x?

bryan peterson says preset your focus distance so 3 feet f/22 for certain photos. can i do this with the kit lens 18-55mm k-x? not sure how to preset to a "distance." all i know so far auto focus or manual focus till it looks right.

After half pressing the shutter to autofocus, or switching to manual focus, you should be able to turn the focus ring on the lens to a desired distance.

Note that most people will advise not to use such small apertures (large number) due to diffraction of the light rays which may degrade the image.

The DA-L kit lens does not have a distance scale like the other versions, so basically the answer is no. The workaround

Find a subject at 3 feet, let the camera focus on it and switch to MF. Don't touch the focusing ring after that.
