Blinking " F - - " with my k10d . help.

I have a ricoh xr 35mm lens, 1:1.7 50mm. But when I put it on my K10d, I'm not able to shoot, and on the top info screen there is just a blinking " F - -" .

can someone help? is the lens too old? is it not fully locked in? if so how can i lock it all the way.

thank you.

Is it a manual aperture lens? If so, you'll need to set the custom function that allows use of the aperture ring in positions other than 'A'.

Thereafter, please refer to this article: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/59287-shooting-manua...x-dslrs-f.html

You'll have to meter manually, but you will be able to use the lens

A side note:
Take the lens of the camera. If it comes off, check for the infamous ricoh pin (there are some threads here about it; search for ricoh pin or lens stuck on camera). If it does not want to come off, it has the infamous ricoh pin

For the original question, see Adam's reply.

You will also notice that if you select any mode but M (Tv, Av, etc), the camera will default to Av. If you want to use these types of lenses once you get the aperture ring sorted out, learn to read the camera meter.

I realize what this will sound like and maybe this has been discussed before but maybe part of the registration process should involve a link directing new members to a select few stickies during an authorization period.
I am by no means suggesting callousness but one of the reason people come here is to gain information. This is a great site full of fantastic members. And growing. An obvious helping hand would be to at least guide new members directly to some of the more common topics as part of the registration.
If this has been approached before or you feel the pinned topics are sufficient then I hope I do not appear to be a nuisance.
