k100D Lens'

My camera, K100d, conked out and is not worth the $250 to repair it. Some sort of "sensor"?. I was thinking about getting another Pentax (Body) so I could use my two lenes. The orginal and a Pentax 50-200. That lens has "SMC Pentax DA" label on it.

My question is what camera would be appropriate for these lens'. I don't want to spend a fortune, I'm pretty new and casual photo. Maybe up to $500 for the "body only" Help???

K10, K20, K200 and the newer K-7 and K-X will work with those lenses. Plus any others you come across that were made to use on Pentax gear.

Here is where I bought my K100D, used of course, but I like it. "hope the sensor doesn't go out"

They have some good deals on a few K10Ds. I have bought much from them and always been satisfied with their services.

I recently went from a K100D to a K-X and I have been really happy with it.

I don't know if this is still the case but I was able to get the body and 18-55 kit cheaper than the body only.

When I shoot with the kit lens, I do use the lens from my K100D since it has the metal mount instead of the plastic one that came with the K-X, but they are optically the same.

They're similar, but not exactly the same optically. The DA L 18-55 that comes as the kit lens with the K-x is optically the same as the DA 18-55 II and the DA 18-55 WR. But the original kit lens—the DA 18-55 that came with the K100D and K10D—is an older optical design. It has since been redesigned for more sharpness and less vignetting, producing the three modern variants I already mentioned.

All Pentax digital SLR bodies are compatible with all Pentax lenses, so that should be the least of your troubles

For a new body, I'd recommend a used K-x or K10D. Check our marketplace, stores such as B&H and adorama (see my signature), as well our camera review database for pricing trends and available deals!

As far as I know:

The K100D came with a DA18-55AL. After that, the optics of this lens was improved to benefit the higher resolution sensors. The lens was called DA18-55 AL II; you can recognize it by the label that is under the camera flash when the lens is mounted; it has a red II

The DAL18-55 and the DA18-55 WR (that come as kit lenses with the current Kx and K7) are optically the same as the II version.

Hi Vinny and welcome to the forum

One of the great benefits of Pentax cameras is that all of the Digital SLR's are compatible with all Pentax K mount lenses straight out of the box, so any of the bodies mentioned above will fit your lenses. I would suggest a used K200D or K10D as both give good value and should give you years of service. If you want to buy a new camera, the only one that will fit under your $500 limit is the K-x. All three of these cameras are good cameras and will give you great pictures. The K200D and the K10D don't have video capability, but can be found for less than the K-x.

Welcome to the forums Vinny!
You can still sell the body for parts or AS-IS.
It could still command a good price for someone who knows how to fix it.
