Newbie lens quest...

Duh, I didn't read close enough, or I forgot about your 16-45, or the voices in my head told me to ignore it, or...

Yeah, close focus is great. I'm a sucker for getting close and dirty. I'm about to leave on a multi-month tent-camping trip and I'm obsessing over which lenses to take. The zooms are easy: DA10-17, DA18-55 (with filters), DA18-250, FA100-300, Lil'Bigma 170-500. My criteria for primes include: better IQ and/or faster and/or closer focusing than a zoom, and/or just being really different. Wide lenses are just SO good for closing in on something.

The Tamron 17-50/2.8 is also great like that. But since you already have the 16-45, you'd really have to value the speed to go to the Tamron.

What's your budget look like? If you want something special, the Zeiss Distagon 35/2 is available in K Mount & M42 and will/should be cheaper than the 31/1.8 limited. The Ziess is Manual Focus, but i'm guessing you already knew that.
