I actually got one on Amazon through another seller, for $5.99. Came today, it is Zeikos brand and purchased from A&R Photo and Video.

problem is I can't find a bayonet fit cheap one for the 55-300 only for the 18-55; plenty of screw thread ones, but not realy what I want due to stowage in the bag.

Get a collapsable rubber one. It's what I use on many of my lenses, they work just fine and don't take up that much more space.

I bought a 55mm rubber hood for my Sigma 100-300, but after using it a bit I decided to get a scew-on metal one. The rubber one is very wide and I found it didn't fit well in my bag if left on the lens. So I figured if I'm takng the hood off anyway, I'd rather have the narrower, deeper, rigid metal hood. (It will look better, too, IMO.) What I really wanted was the bayonet type, of course, but even Sigma doesn't sell them anymore. They're listed on their site, but the "BUY NOW" button is dead!

lost the plot on this a bit and did not pay attention the thread moved from looking for a hood for a 55-300 to a 18-55 and I bought one of the 18-55 by mistake. it's OK i will keep it for a spare.
Anyway back to the original quest, a lens hood for a 55-300 pentax DAL other than buying a a ridiculous price a pentax one any suggestions?
