Where can I purchase Sigma 50-500

I want to purchase a Sigma 50-500 for my Pentax K-20D. Adorama has the new OS version on back order. B & H lists them as discontinued--is any version, (non-OS, or the OS) still available for purchase? If so, does anyone know where?

This is so frustrating!

The $1,000-dollar version is discontinued. The new $1600-dollar version is in stock.

There is also a 150-500 if you don't need the wide end (why have a 4 pound 50mm?)

There are or were three, with Pentax mount.
Sigma # 735109 = 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO EX RF
Sigma # 736109 = 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG
Sigma # 738109 = 50-500mm f/4.5-6.3 APO DG OS
Sadly none is in stock at this minute.

Amazon still lists them as available with a 30-60 shipping delay. Great lens. Worth the wait.

I noticed that. However, at the suggestion of Adorama, I called Sigma yesterday and was "curtly" informed that Sigma had no plans at this time to manufacture the new OS version in Pentax mount.

I am really bummed. I had my heart set on one of these lenses.

Thanks for the response.

You can also rent this lens if you just want to try it. With such an expensive lens, it's worth renting to see if it's worth the money.

I've used https://www.cameralensrentals.com/ a few times and can recommend them.

I'll be absolutely unhappy if this is true, I have purchased a K7 with the intention of ordering Bigma.

It's advertised here locally as in stock by many retailers, and i have talked to the Pentax distributor who is also the Sigma distributor down here. I will be confirming for sure, but i feel you have been given incorrect information.

The Pentax is mentioned specifically in the press release from Feb2010.
http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/news/100222_50-500_45-63_dg_os_hsm.htm

"For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the view finder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement. "

Can anyone confirm the existence of the 50-500 in Pentax mount with OS?

I notice Amazon have it with a "1 to 2 month" shipping ETA.

They have lied to you.

On the Sigma Benelux website it says:
Leverbaar vanaf medio maart 2010."

For the few of you who do not understand Dutch (anybody there?), it says the the new 50-500mm blah, ultra telezoom lens offers a 10x zoom ratio and is supplied with its own Optical Stabilizer function with which you can gain 4 stops. This OS function can also be used on Sony and Pentax camera's. blah, blah.

I actually could sort of make sense of Dutch (well, at least "optical" and "ghosting").

But what's the lying part you refer to?

I have the 150-500 and you do not use both OS and SR simultaneously.

This is off of the Sigma Web Site, it says this lens is available. Now Amazon says it has a 1 to two month wait. It wouldn't suprise me if they don't special order and have Sigma manufacture one which is why it takes that long, thats just a guess. "Sigma’s NEW APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM is an advanced optical design of this 10x power high-performance zoom lens that covers the standard-to-super-telephoto range, now with the added advantage of Sigma’s own Optical Stabilization which offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. Sigma is the only one to offer OS for Sony and Pentax mount where the image is stabilized in the viewfinder if chosen." If you want to order contact Amazon and make sure. Let us all know what they say, I might even be in the market for another one. Jerome

Yes i talked to the Australian distributor of Sigma and Pentax yesterday, It will not be available for Pentax mount until August according to CRK.

It seems that retailers must of jumped the gun, or Sigma's press release has.
Amazon, B&H, and every other retailer has had it listed for sale since the press release, but you won't see anybody with one until at least August.

Thats a humorous name considering none of their lens prices are any less than anywhere else...

There is a thread in the Lens Discussion that has a press release fron Sigma stating that the 50-500 and a couple of the other long zooms have been recalled due to AF problems. That has probably caused a temporary shortage.

Go Back PentaxForums.com > Pentax Lenses and Accessories > Pentax SLR Lens Discussion > Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 for Pentax

Here is a link to the Sigma web page for the 50-500. It clearly lists the Pentax mount as being supported...
.... along with a $2,400 MSRP
There is also a link to dealers.
While you are waiting for the BigMa to be restocked, you might consider this one....
hope that helps...
