Using an old lens with a Pentax K-m

Hi,

I am very new to DSLR photography. For X-mas I received a Pentax K-m. My boyfriend purchased a Pentax for me because he has a old Pentax MX and was told that his old lenses should be compatible. The one I would like to use does not fit. It is a Vivitar 80-200mm Macro Focusing Zoom P/K.

My questions are...
1. Is there an adaptor I can use?
2. If there is a way of using the lens on the K-m, is it too complex for a beginner?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A P/K mount lens should fit. Are you sure it's marked like that?

EDIT: and if it comes from a Pentax SLR, it really should fit.

It says P/K next to the red dot (lens mount index?) on the lens.

When I line up the lens mount index on the camera and to the one on the lens it the lens fits into the camera but I can't turn it to lock it in place. Hope that makes sense.

Well, it does make sense but unfortunately I don't know why it doesn't fit. Could it be that the manufacturing tolerances have been not so tight back then and the lens is slightly too big???

But I'm sure you'll soon get answers from the people who know the equipment better than I do.

This thread may help with the mounting problem.

I seem to recall on some lenses there a part that is a bit too big to fit on modern DSLR - try searching on the word "flange" in conjunction with other relevant terms (eg, "pentax lens flange fit". People have talked about filing it down or cutting prt of it off - and pictures and descriptions are probably contianed in any pots you find on the topic. Like this one I just found:

eBay Guides - kobori vivitar mod to fit digital pentax

As for how to use it once you
