Lookin for initial settings...

With the looming meteor shower happening over the next few days, I was wondering what kind of prliminary setting I should be starting with for this rare occassion?

It's a K10D with the stock 18 55 da lens.

Here's the news clip about it if your intrested..
CBC News - British Columbia - B.C. sky gazers gear up for meteor shower

TIA

Turn the long exposure noise reduction off (the K10d is the last camera with the ability to do so). Leave your ISO below 400. Set to Manual focus and focus on a star or cluster in the area of interest. Go to about f5.6 or f8. If you don't have a remote, use M mode and take several multi-second exposures. If that doesn't work, try something different. Then show us what you got. Cloud cover here all week so I'm going to miss the peak of the shower.

Thank you for asking about this Mountain Cat, I was searching the web on how to do this...I should have come here first

I am in the Cariboo, and the last few days the smoke has cleared from the fires, I can see the blue sky and the stars again, first time in 2 weeks.

Can I use bulb mode on my k20d?
I'm going to give it a try tonight, thanks for posting

Shannon, Bulb mode should do fine also, if you know how long you should expose for at the aperture and ISO you've set the camera to - and it's best to use a cable release to avoid camera shake and sheer fatigue from holding the shutter button down for minutes on end.

Thanks Ash,
I have my camera set up with my remote and tripod.

Mountain Cat... sorry it's cloudy Tomorrow is suppose to be the best night, so no worries.

ps. I would take clouds over the thick smoke we have had here, they said if you were outside for 20 minutes it was like smoke 10 pack of cigarettes. We had the worst air quality in all of Canada. Glad the winds have cleared our valley.
Maybe I will get a shot or two
