New to Pentax: Is this a good deal?

Hi Pentax Forums!

Brief history: I had done some film photography in the past and taken a few courses in college. I used an old Minolta back then. About two years ago I bought a Nikon D40 thinking I would get back into photography. I never really got the feel for that camera and I sold it. Recently, I've been thinking of picking up a dslr again. Getting tired of taking "okay" pictures with my P+S. I'd heard about the K100D and began researching it. It seems like it would be a pretty good beginners camera for me.

Okay, to the question at hand. I found this package deal and wanted to see if you thought the price was a steal (I think it is). Total price they are asking is $200 for the following:
1) Pentax K100D 6.2mp DSLR with Shake Reduction (Body), excellent condition
Also included:
18/55mm Pentax K-mount AF lens (Less than a month old) with lens hood and caps
80/200mm Pentax K-mount longrange MF lens (Rarely used)

Could anyone shed some light on what lenses the seller might be referencing? Are there any specific questions I should ask them about the camera?

Thanks for all your help!

The 18-55 is known as the kit lens. Take a look through the Kit Lens Club and the Lens Review Database.

Thanks! I hadn't yet looked at the Lens Reviews. I did read up on all of the K100D reviews both here and on other sites. Do you think $200 is a good price for the above package?

It looks like one sold last month in the Market Place for $299

If the shutter count is less than 10K-30K, I would consider it a very good deal.

KEH wants $235 for the body only. $200 with the kit lens and an 80-200 is a good deal especially if the kit is the DA and not the DA L.

Thanks for your help guys! I emailed the seller asking what the shutter count was and just some other general questions about the condition. We'll see what they say!

Yes, if in good condition, that's a good deal. Do you know any specifics on the 80-200mm lens, like what brand and speed? Good luck!

If the camera is in good shape with respectably low shutter count, $200 is fair, although the 80-200mm may or may not be useful.

Regarding the 18-55, some people would prefer the DA, some the DA-L. With the DA-L you get the newer lens design; with the DA you might get a hood. You most likely aren't looking at a DA-II, which would be the best of both worlds.

The point is that DA isn't necessarily better, in every respect, than the DA-L. Although you might argue that, particularly for a k100, the advantage of the hood might outweigh the older optical design.

Thanks for the replies RioRico and tibbitts. I emailed the seller for more details earlier today and haven't heard anything back yet. I will let you all know when I do.

So, I emailed the seller yesterday afternoon and have yet to hear back from them. Not a great sign. So, I guess I will start watching eBay and the Marketplace on here for a used K100D. In the meantime I'm acquiring my in-laws older Nikon film SLR to use so I can brush up on the basics. I am super rusty on everything from exposure to dof...the list could go on and on with the things I need to relearn/practice.
