If Lightroom is showing the images correctly, that proves the information is there. So now it's jus up to you to find the option in Irfanveiw to get it to honor that information - or find a viewer that does.

BTW, note I wasn't asking about Explorer, but rather Windows Photo Gallery. It wouldn't surprise me if Explorer was dumb, but Photo Gallery should be a bit smarter.

Mark was the view on your portrait pic taken on a landscape too in your explorer when you view on thumbnails?

My version of Explorer doesn't show thumbs for my RAW files except at the bottom of the screen for the currently selected one, and it is rotated correctly. But different versions of Explorer might behave differently.

In any case, if you are saying that it *ever* looks correct - either in the camera, in LR, or in some other program, then it's definitely a software issue, not a camera issue. It's going to be hard to diagnose long-distance, but hopefully there are people in your area who are more computer-savvy who could help.

Irfanview
Click on 'Options' on the toolbar. In the drop down menu click on 'Properties/settings', click on 'JPG/PCD/GIF/'. Select 'Autorotate image according to EXIF info if available'.

See if that works

4.25. Just go to the irfanview homepage and download the latest version - including the plugins. Its all free. Irfanview reads the DNG files as well.

i just downloaded the newer version and it works.. however when you viewed the file on the explorer as thumbnails you can see it at landscapes but when you use the Irfanview it appears on portrait mode. i also went back to some of my files which i rotated before w/ the file size of 900kb, i rotate it back and save it and the images file size went up to around 2.2mb
