A few shots i took with my K-x (beginner!)

All taken with the 18-55 kit lens. Is the lens supposed to be soft? I have quite a few close-up shots that kind of like have an "aura" around the entire subject. Usually only happens when the object is well lit, or i use the flash. Close up pictures look best on an overcast/cloudy day.

First two are some bees in my dads garden. Was an overcast day. No sunlight. I took like 50 pictures of the various bees, these were the only two that were focused on the bees instead of the flower.
Third one is my friends Mustang outside of my place of employment.
Fourth one is a 30 second exposure done at night, the light is a small town 12-15 miles away.
Fifth is a friend thats outside my place of employment having a smoke.

The only picture i used a tripod for is the timed exposure.

(I work as a bartender)

Total beginner to SLR camera system.

Can you please post some examples of the "Aura"

what might be happening is that highlight correction might be set too high and when highlights are corrected too much objects with lots of contrast can form glowing auras

I mainly only shoot RAW

Sorry to say i delete the photos like that. What i can tell you is that its really only noticeable when i zoom in to 1:1 in Lightroom, and the object is lit with direct light.

I think its just me being anal about photo quality, and expecting something that i shouldn't expect.
