Sources for older Prime Lenses

I've been trying to read as much as possible about lenses here because one of the draws to my K-x was that its a Pentax and Pentax, unlike other makers, has maintained backward compatibility with its lenses for its newest dSLRs

My question is, other than FleaBay and used camera stores like KEH where do you find your older lenses?

I'm presuming that you examine the marketplace on this forum for older glass. For Pentax gear it's really the best I've found.

Those are the big three - eBay, KEH, and the marketplace on this site. Sometimes you get lucky at a pawn shop or other brick&mortar ued camera shop; sometimes someone will list something on craigslist. But I find that most people who have anything worth buying tend to sell via eBay, with the local sales primarily being used K1000's with 50/2's attached and maybe a no name 135 or telephoto zoom. An OK way to get started, maybe.

pawn shops have quite a few also. There's a post on this site about how to go about selecting a lens in a pawn shop.

Yes, I have done so already. The two that I thought were available that I PM'd about buying (actually offered to PP the $s) were in fact already sold but without any such notification in the thread. I'm still checking in there regularly though.

Do you have any other sources to offer?

Thanks. Never been to a Pawn shop before, might be an interesting experience.

opiet70, thanks for mentioning my article, PAWNSHOP LENSES (and other used lenses) - A Buyers' Guide.

Docrwm, pawnshops and thrift stores and yard sales are always a challenge. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time looking at nothing worthwhile. But, sometimes you can get lucky...

True, sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs...

I have found a good selection of lenses over the years I have been to yard sales but the biggest thing to learn was to abandon all expectation.

Mostly I go to yard sales for the story, like the gentleman who sold me his scythe and when I asked him how to use it he told me of his youth clearing fields of rushes to make pasture for his cows.

Then he demonstrated the correct technique and after I had practiced it to his satisfaction he asked me to wait and eventually emerged from his garage with the most wonderful sharpening stone and told me that now I had shown I would indeed use the scythe I had better have the rest of the kit to make it work.

Thanks for the link and advice. We've got a few Goodwill locations near us that might be interesting but I know of no pawn shops anywhere nearby.
