The camera should be able to support SD cards up to 32GB. My *istDs did with its latest firmware and it is older than the K100D.

The 8gb card is plenty.

Just another - Thank you! for this thread. I won a K100D recently that had v1.00 firmware. I finally dug up an old 2gb SD card that work work and the camera has been working fine. Then I found this thread and the v1.02 firmware upgrade and now I can use my old 8gb cards that are just sitting around! Thanks again!

Enjoy the K100D. I still think the 6MP CCD has the best colour rendering of any DSLR I've ever used. Way out of date now in terms of resolution and ISO of course, but wow those colours.

Thanks in advance

I am just starting to learn how to do this upgrade to my K100D as well. Thanks to all that posted comments, and especially to Dan M for the written instructions.
One more question: where do I go for the official upgrade site?

IT Works! Updated the firmwear and now I can shoot again! Thanks to all!
Didn't take any time to do this, once I located a 1GB card to put the update on!
Thanks again to everyone!

Glad you got it sorted! It's a great little camera, capable of gorgeous images. Don't forget to drop by the Six Megapixel Club when you get a chance.

Update not starting

Hi everyone, I have the same problem as DuncanSD.
At the step: "Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button." I just get the "ver: 1.00" in the display, the update does not start.

I'm placing the bin file in the root of a 256Mb SD card that I have tried formatting in the camera as well as in the Windows PC (with the same result). I've used this SD card for years and it works fine in the camera to store the photographs.
I have even tried redownloading and extracting the bin file, to no avail.
Help me!? I'm so desperate I may even go to Canon.com

Lets start troubleshooting at the beginning:

What file is in the root folder of the SD card?

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your reply.
The file in the root of the SD card is: FWDC156B.BIN
I've downloaded it (in an self extracting file) from: Firmware Update Software for K100D | Software Downloads?RICOH IMAGING CANADA

I would recommend starting with the download from the Ricoh Japan site: Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

Let's try that! (Holding thumbs.)

Try another card?

Permit me to ask the obvious stupid question - your camera is indeed a K100D?
