Clicking Sound When Taking a Photo-K100D

Hi,

Every time I take a photo there is a clicking sound. Is there any way to get rid of that?

Is this an unusual sound, or are you just talking about the sound of the mirror and shutter moving?

If you're new to the world of SLR cameras, it comes with the territory; there's a decent hunk of glass that gets thrown out of the way to take the picture, and a large focal plane shutter must fire and be reset. If you're expecting the k100d to be silent, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed..

The K100D is an embarrassingly loud camera.

"Shhhhhh-WHACK-huh!"

All SLR's make noise when shooting - the mirro that *makes* them a SLR makes noise when it flips. I suggest reading up on how an SLR works.

Thanks, all, just wondering. It scares my dog when I try to take a photo of her :-).

Get a K-7 or the new K-5 if those are viable options for you - really quiet compared to the older Pentax models - people don't know when to stop posing when you're shooting them since they don't hear anything when you take the picture

I love the the ker-CHUNK of the k100d. So much more satisfying than the sound of my damned AE-1. Oddly enough, my recently acquired ZX-10 is quieter that the k100d. Really seems with the theoretically smaller mirror and shutter, the aps-c camera ought to be the quiet one. Actually, I change that; the zx-10 is the least satisfying camera I own, except that the AE-1 recently failed to expose an entire roll I was really excited about.

pbo, I could be wrong, but it would appear Chuckdua is a relatively new owner of a k100d. Somehow I doubt he's ready to make the jump from a relatively cheap used body to a 1500 usd K-5. Personally, I'm hoping I wake up one day to find a K-5 has materialized on my dresser, but I'm more after the viewfinder, high ISO and high speed autofocus.
