I'm thinking about picking up a cable for my flash to make it a little more versatile.

Would a cheap third-party one be fine or is it worth it to get name-brand?

I've been using something like this.

I don't know about long term durability because I don't use it a lot. But it has lasted me almost 3 years.

I sometimes use the Pentax 5 foot cord, it is high quality. Never felt the need to baby it when pulling and tugging on it.
If you are not planning on using it a lot, then a cheap one will most likely be fine.
