FA50mm f 1.4 - help please

Suddenly my K-x is not reading the F value of the lens. All I see is F---. It works only in the Av mode. I did not drop the lens. It still autofocuses. I could manually turn the apertures though. Even if I set the aperture at 5.6, after taking the picture, the info reads as F1.4. Can anyone tell me what is going on with the lens? Is there anyone who could repair it at a reasonable price?
Thanks and awaiting your reply guys.

The lens needs to be in the A position to shoot at other than wide open. Regardless of where you put the aperture ring

Thanks for the info, but I am really confused why my camera is not reading the F value. It is definitely not a problem with the camera, as all other lens work very well.

You didn't answer Lowell's implied question: Is the aperture ring set to "A"?

If not - that's the reason. It must be on "A".

Thank you so much Lowell and Ole. It works perfectly after setting the ring to "A". I would have sold it in ebay for 50$, for parts only
Again thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

Don't feel too bad, this is one of those mistakes that we all make on this type of lens. Been there done that. Occasionally it still happens to me and I have a momentary brain freeze then a big duh!

I would have been more than happy to buy that lens for parts only
