haha it is rather $$$ but you won’t need another 50mm prime... ever... so long as you continue to use pentax

If you dont mind shooting manual focus then $600 could go very far and would buy many excellent lenses.

If you prefer auto, well then its starts to use up the $$$
the new dal 35mm f/2.4 sound like a good bargain, then again the da40 LTD is another great lens to be had in your budget with money left over, even more so if you buy second hand and same again with the fa50 f/1.4

But since you only have the kit lens, i would recomend getting something other than a lens in the 18-55mm range.
A DA70LTD second hand would fit the bill

If you want to extend your reach beyond the 18-55 there are lots of really nice 135s out there. On the K-X they work more like a 200mm but you can get older primes for very little and experiment with telephoto shots.

I'd say get a f1.7 50mm mf lens (if you *must* have autofocus get the F series, can be had for very reasonable prices) and a f2.8/f3.5 28mm mf lens (as about re: autofocus). Both are great lenses, great portrait fls, and great landscape fls. The quality of the glass in old Pentax lenses is hard to beat - certainly better than the kit lens.

If you like flash portraiture then find yourself a flash - sigma, metz, pentax.
