kx photo with 55-300mm lens af works,but as a newbe to manual focus

live view gets me on to of the seeds in bird feeder ,then when i try manul focus,every thing gets blurry as i try to come into the same spot .is it me !last manual camera i had was a yashia g35 god im getting old

Check your focus points in the camera controls. If you're using those 11 points, it could be misfocusing for you. For birds at the feeder, I use spot metering.

Hi litboat, welcome to the forum! Like photolady said above, make sure you are on center focus. I'm an old geezer too, and I found I get better results if I forego live view completely and rely only on the viewfinder. It works better for me. If you want to (re) learn manual focusing I can suggest a series of exercises that will really help. They are pretty boring but they get the job done. They were written up by a gentleman named Godfrey over at DPR. He was (and still may be, I don't visit there much anymore) a prolific poster there and a good photographer.
