amoringello, what I'm saying is that the limitation is overblown as there are so many ways around it.

I think a far more important limitation is flash duration, far too many flashes (especially speedlights) take a very long time to discharge.

I think the last best post I saw on strobist was his post about tripods, where he was reinforcing that ambient is your friend and lamenting his foolishness when he way young.

I just don't think getting hung up on a 1/2 a stop is needed. If we were talking sync speeds of 1/1000 or 1/2000 vs 1/180 then I would be excited, but 1/160 vs 1/180 vs 1/250 just isn't that important in my mind.

True. (well not everything can be worked around, but not a huge deal)
1/1000 or higher would be nice. Actually 1/500 would be just fine with me. :-)
